    **Individual Preventive Screening**

Review the clinician provider guidelines and recommendations from the United States Preventive Services Task Force A and B Recommendations.

For the master’s-prepared nurse, knowledge of epidemiology and its application to preventive screening guidelines is important in many clinical areas: administrative, education, and nurse practitioner fields. Individual patient preventive screenings are ordered as a secondary measure
before symptoms occur. Preventive screenings are recommended based on outcome data from epidemiological studies, that the test is beneficial; based on risk and characteristics of the identified population in the screening guideline.

Select one screening below from the United States Preventive Services Task Force guidelines.

    · Abdominal aortic aneurysm

    · Breast cancer

    · Cervical cancer

    · Colon cancer

    · Diabetes mellitus II

    · Lung cancer

    **Condition and Screening**

    · Define the condition and type of screening.

    **Epidemiology of Condition**

    · Discuss the epidemiology of the condition in the United States, via three statistical terms. Include the mortality and related morbidity statistics in numerical format and address trends. Include 3 comparisons: related disparities, such as race, sex, age, etc. Clearly state an analysis of the data, identifying gaps and inequities in care. Provide trends and outcomes related to screening benefits in numerical statistics.

    **Methodology**

    · Incorporate the described USPSTF guideline development methodology process, (How the guideline was developed).

    · Discuss the preventive guideline criteria, the population, and provide details on the screening tool.

    · Include detailed risk factors. If there is a risk prediction tool, include this.

    **Critical Analysis**

    · Conduct a literature review of the guideline's support used for its development. You may include alternative studies found in more recent literature supporting or offering alternative views.

    · Identify and discuss four studies used in the guideline development clearly relating the impact on the guideline criteria for screening, tool, or population etc.

    · Identify each study clearly in the paper and cite.

    **Summary**

Provide a summary conclusion of the screening guideline, general benefit to the individual, and why it is important.

    Format expectations:

    · Follow all assignment directions.

    · Introduction and conclusion are included.

    · Information in paragraphs and paper organized to convey the content to the reader.

    · Paper length paper should be 3–4 pages of content.

    · Follows APA in paper format, reference page, in-text citations, or headings.

    · Uses four or more credible peer-reviewed sources.

Master’s-prepared nurse educators, leaders, nurse practitioners, and all specialty nursing fields are contributors to health promotion in populations across the life span. You will demonstrate understanding and correct interpretations of preventive screening guidelines. You should be able to apply this knowledge to your specialty focus as it relates to health promotion and epidemiology.

Intercultural communication is essential in nursing. There is a large population of non-English speakers in my area. Nurses must find ways to effectively communicate with their patients, especially those from other cultures. Yakar and Alpar (2018) conducted a study to see if nurses had intercultural communication competency. Nurses scored highly in this, with the most nurses in the facility having at least a bachelor's degree (Yakar & Alpar, 2018, p. 1746). Many of these nurses were also fluent in another language.

As a nurse reading this article, I was looking for research to show improvement in patient outcomes, but that was not part of the study. The study only focused on the knowledge nurses had on the subject. The study did mention that training and interpreters could assist in this area (Yakar & Alpar, 2018, pp 1752-1753). I appreciate that the study was conducted in a hospital that cares for foreigners, and how the nurse gained their experiences in this type of communication. This study was great at figuring out where nurses stand on intercultural communication and how to improve it. This study focused on one area, but many more studies may come from the authors' groundwork. I see many opportunities for further research in this area.

I used the Walden Library with advanced searches to find this article. My search was difficult at first, until I used the advanced search. The Walden Library advanced search helped to see if it was a journal, blog, magazine, trade, or publication (Walden University, n.d.). I found this very helpful in narrowing my search. It also helped me to read the abstract before I read the whole article. That alone saves time, which is crucial when working and caring for my family. I also used keywords in the advanced search, narrowing my search further. I looked to see if the study had ethics approval, what the study design was, what methods were used, what the statistics were, whether the study was non-biased, and whether there was a need for the study (Al-Jundi & Sakka, 2017). This advice helped me choose legitimate studies that coincide with my topic. I recommend the Walden Library to others. Many people could benefit from how easy it is to use and be able to reach their goals, one step at a time.

The articles I selected relate to the holistic aim I intend to prioritize in obtaining and practicing as a PMHNP.  My primary goal is to improve patient outcomes by treating physical and mental health together, as highlighted in Hellstern’s systematic review of 42 studies on Integrated Primary Care (Hellstern, 2025).  I also chose an article on other complementary healing practices, such as Reiki, due to my personal interest in incorporating complementary therapies into my future practice.  Both articles emphasize the increasing focus on integrated care and its positive impact on holistic patient outcomes (Robichaux, 2025).

I used the Walden Library database to search for articles.  This database is not only user-friendly but has proven to be effective in narrowing down search results when used efficiently.  The "advanced search" button allows keyword entry, focusing results on relevant content.  The ability to enter multiple keywords greatly narrows down search results.  The "Peer-Reviewed Scholarly Journals Only" tab helps ensure resources meet assignment criteria.  I believe this database would be useful to my colleagues as it is a free database created for scholarly learners and is easy to use.  The only difficulties I could foresee would be using too many keywords, which could eliminate possible relevant articles.

Being a Walden Alumni, I am very familiar with the library and the resources offered there. I enjoyed being able to have peer reviewed articles and research studies at my fingertips. I became well accustomed to the advance search options through educational guidance with Walden (Walden University Library, n.d.). There are tips to discovering the key words to input for the advance search options (Walden University Library, n.d.).

Research has already been initiated towards my career as a PMHNP into a holistic approach for patients. I discovered a study that links physical illnesses and mental health diseases (Patel and Mancuso, 2022). This article made mention of the importance of advocacy and holistic approach in mental health world. Advocacy is extremely important for the nursing profession. I found a journal entry that provides examples of how advocacy has the power to eliminate mental health blockades and biases (Kowalczyk, 2023). This is an example of how a peer reviewed article directed me to another topic with just as much value and importance for my career. There so many added benefits and resources with Walden Library.

    GRADE:

    **## GuidelinesFaithIntegrationPaper-11.pdf**

One of the Cornerstones of Azusa Pacific University is Service. Your Faith Integration
paper (written in English) will focus on how you will incorporate your faith or worldview
into your diverse community of service as a nurse practitioner. In this formal research
paper, I want you to substantiate your thoughts with viable academic resources
(minimum of two academic resources which one of the resources can be the Bible).

Challenge yourself to look at your career as a nurse practitioner looking through the lens
of a cultural advocate and holistic health provider. Look at ways on how you can impact
your patients or your colleagues on a cultural level and on a faith/worldview level.

For example, each week you have been challenged to reflect on faith and cultural views.
Utilize what you already know and what you have learned to expand upon your outlook
on how to treat patients that are from a different cultural than your own. Take one
aspect of faith (what motivates you to make an impact in your world) and integrate it
into your culturally diverse medical practice.

    Guidelines:

    • Create a thesis based on your interest in nursing. Focus on the “why” you want to
write about this area of medicine and how your personal
faith/worldview/perspective will help motivate you to make a difference.

    • Make this paper personal. You are permitted to use the 3rd person when writing
    this paper.

    • Two or more resources are required to substantiate and support your thesis
statement. One viable resource you can use is the Bible.

    • The Faith Integration paper should include:
o An APA formatted title page
o Two or more pages of content

    § Font size: 12
    § Double spaced
    § Margins: 1”
    § Formal and professional language

o One APA formatted resource page
§ Two or more academic resources
§ Include personal faith/worldview/perspective to support your

    personal connection

    Examples of thesis statements:

    • Focus on the increase of cases of Latino patients with latter stages of cancer.
Come up with strategies on how to demonstrate the importance of
preventative care. Include methods of approach that would include holistic
care: language services, sensitivity to traditions, cultural norms, and personal
beliefs. How would your personal culture, belief and traditions help you to
    convey this vital information?

    • Share a personal experience (write in the first person) on your own personal
growth since becoming a nurse/nurse practitioner and working with culturally
diverse patients. Give an example on how you have grown as a person and
how your personal faith/belief/worldview has changed. What challenges are
you facing in becoming a culturally competent nurse? What ways assist you in
becoming more culturally aware or sensitive? Does your
faith/belief/worldview influence the way you treat your patients?

    • Research the various methods/approaches/training modules that are available
to healthcare providers to increase their cultural awareness and/or cultural
sensitivity. Share your thoughts on the pros and cons of these
methods/approaches/training modules. Based on your personal
faith/belief/worldview, how can increasing your cultural knowledge help you
understand your patients better? You can include methods on how to raise
patient compliancy rates and patient satisfaction scores.

Each week you will submit a section of your paper for review.

    • Week 7 – Submit one or two sentences stating your thesis or main idea for
your Faith Integration paper. (10 points)

    • Week 8 – Submit the title of your paper and two or more academic
resources (that you will use for your paper) in APA format (10 points)

    • Week 9 – Submit an outline (10 points)
    • Week 10 – Submit introduction and literature review (10 points)
    • Week 11- Finalized and revised paper (35 points)

o You must also include a Title page (4 points), correct APA formatting (5
points), correct APA reference page (5 points)

This assignment is worth 9% of your total grade.

    **## Shareapersonalexperience1.docx**

Share a personal experience (write in the first person) on your own personal
growth since becoming a nurse/nurse practitioner and working with culturally
    diverse patients.

Give an example on how you have grown as a person and
how your personal faith/belief/worldview has changed. What challenges are
you facing in becoming a culturally competent nurse? What ways assist you in
becoming more culturally aware or sensitive? Does your

    **Thesis / Main Idea**

Guided by the biblical call to serve the vulnerable, I will integrate my faith with culturally sensitive nursing practice to address health disparities in immigrant and minority populations through preventive screenings, patient education, and respectful family-centered care.

Faith-Driven Service: Integrating Christian Values to Reduce Health Disparities Among Immigrant Communities

Since becoming a nurse and now advancing as a Family Nurse Practitioner student, I have experienced tremendous personal and spiritual growth. As an immigrant from Iran, I came to the United States alone, learning to navigate a new culture, language, and healthcare system without the support of my family at first. Those early years taught me empathy in a way no textbook could. Now, as my parents have recently joined me here, I see them face the same challenges I once did—struggling with appointments, insurance, and understanding medical instructions. Witnessing their experience has deepened my awareness of the barriers immigrant and minority populations face every day in accessing care.

Being born and raised in a Muslim family instilled in me strong values of compassion, humility, and respect for others. Over time, my Christian faith has built upon those same principles, shaping my worldview into one that emphasizes service, love, and the dignity of every person. Working at Cedars-Sinai, I care for many culturally diverse patients, and I often see reflections of my own story in them. Early in my career, I focused mostly on providing correct treatments and following clinical guidelines. With experience and faith, I learned that true nursing care is holistic—it includes understanding each patient’s beliefs, traditions, and family dynamics.

One moment that shaped my growth was caring for a Spanish-speaking patient who relied heavily on her faith and family for strength during recovery. By taking time to listen through an interpreter, involving her loved ones in care, and showing genuine respect for her beliefs, I saw how trust and healing grew hand in hand. That experience reminded me that cultural sensitivity is not about knowing every custom—it’s about approaching every person with humility and openness.

The greatest challenge I face in becoming a culturally competent nurse is balancing the fast pace of hospital life with the need to truly connect and understand each patient’s cultural background. What helps me grow is continuous self-reflection, prayer, and learning from my diverse coworkers and patients. My faith calls me to serve the vulnerable with love and integrity, while my immigrant experience allows me to see each patient not as “different,” but as someone deserving of understanding and belonging.

Does your
faith/belief/worldview influence the way you treat your patients?
