    Syrian and Ukrainian Migration

For this chapter's case study, we will discuss migration to Europe from Syria or Ukraine. For this week's discussion board, I want you to imagine that you have been asked to prepare a briefing for the European Commission’s Migration and Home Affairs department. Based on your knowledge of European history, and world geography, and the articles you’ve read, which of the following policies would you select as the best approach to migration to Europe from Syria or Ukraine?

    1. Allow all migrants from Syria or Ukraine to enter Europe.

    2. Only migrants who pass detailed background checks should be allowed. Those who do not pass background checks will be deported back to Syria or Ukraine.

    3. Europe should prohibit migrants from entering Europe and should instead support safe refugee camps in or near Syria or Ukraine.

    4. Europe should prohibit migrants from entering Europe and should instead intervene in Syria and Ukraine militarily.

    5. Europe should proportionally allocate a set number of migrants for each country based on economic and demographic factors.

Explain why the approach you selected is the best way to handle this issue. Remember to cite evidence from the assigned articles in your initial response. Don’t forget to respond to two of your classmates before the discussion closes.

    ## Scenario

You are a former Navy officer and fighter pilot, and you are now the controller of a division of TransGlobal Airlines, a large organization that operates a fleet of corporate jets for charter at several airports in the southeast part of the United States. Your division’s private charter clients include several Fortune 500 companies in the region. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) has informed you that the company is considering the acquisition of two smaller aviation firms in the region specializing in chartered flights for luxury vacations using light aircraft (60 passengers or less). The CFO has tasked you with assessing the organizational benefits of acquiring these aviation firms. The CFO intends to develop a new business plan for the organization if your analysis recommends moving forward with the acquisition.

After an initial assessment, the company has shortlisted two airlines, Company A and Company B, to examine further for acquisition. To understand all aspects of the two airlines under consideration, you have visited each proposed site to assess their performance.

The CFO has asked you to generate two scenarios for the proposed acquisition based on your analysis and governing or predictive assumptions. They include a worst-case scenario that considers the most serious outcomes that could occur if anticipated targets and assumptions are dramatically wrong; and a best-case scenario if anticipated targets and assumptions significantly exceed forecasts.

Based on your assessment and analysis of the companies create and deliver a PowerPoint Presentation for senior management’s review and analysis. Also write an executive summary with your recommendations for the leadership team.

    ## Directions

    **Part 1: Presentation-** 6-7 slides

Submit a PowerPoint presentation with detailed speaker notes to share your analysis and recommendations for the proposed acquisitions.

    **Overview**

    1. **Situation Analysis of TransGlobal Airlines (parent company).**Use the information from the Supporting Materials section to highlight the parent company’s current business environment.

    1. Internal environment: culture, leadership, internal processes, human resources, operations, and financial performance
    2. External environment: competitive, market, regulatory, customers, suppliers, and other relevant stakeholders
    2. **Acquisition Rationale:** Explain why your company is planning to acquire these airlines. What strategic objectives will the acquisition meet? How might the acquisition support the bigger picture goals of TransGlobal?

    **Proposal**

    1. **Recommendation:** Recommend whether TransGlobal Airlines should acquire one or both companies.
    2. **Rationale:** Justify how your recommendation supports the company’s strategic objectives. This includes one or more of its financial, market, competitive, and cultural objectives.
    3. **Assumptions**: Explain how your acquisition recommendation will impact the company’s success in different scenarios:

    1. **A worst-case scenario** that considers the most serious outcomes that could occur if anticipated targets and assumptions are dramatically wrong; and
    2. **A best-case scenario** that considers outcomes that significantly exceed anticipated targets and assumptions.

**Part 2: Executive Summary- 2 pages**

Submit a Word document summarizing your analysis and recommendations for both companies. Include sources cited with APA7.

    1. **Situation assessment**: Briefly summarize your company’s current internal and external business environments and the rationale for acquisition.
    2. **Data and analysis**: Provide a brief overview of the two airlines under consideration, including your findings and analysis from your balanced scorecards.
    3. **Recommendation**: Justify your recommendation for the acquisition and explain how it supports the company’s objectives.

    Disaster Recovery Plan

Develop a disaster recovery plan to reduce health disparities and improve access to community services after a disaster. Then develop a brochure, storyboard, or poster communicating the plan for the local system, city officials, and the disaster relief team.

    Collapse All

    **Introduction**

Nurses perform a variety of roles and their responsibilities as healthcare providers extend to the community. The decisions we make daily and in times of crisis often involve the balancing of human rights with medical necessities, equitable access to services, legal and ethical mandates, and financial constraints. In the event of a major accident or natural disaster, many issues can complicate decisions concerning the needs of an individual or group, including understanding and upholding rights and desires, mediating conflict, and applying established ethical and legal standards of nursing care. As a nurse, you must be knowledgeable about disaster preparedness and recovery to safeguard those in your care. As an advocate, you are also accountable for promoting equitable services and quality care for the diverse community.

A comprehensive recovery plan, guided by the Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication (CERC) framework and the National Incident Management System approach is essential to help ensure everyone’s safety. The unique needs of residents must be assessed to lessen health disparities and improve access to equitable services after a disaster.

Recovery efforts depend on the appropriateness of the plan, the extent to which key stakeholders have been prepared, quality of the communication, and the allocation of available resources. In a time of cost containment, when personnel and resources may be limited, the needs of residents must be weighed carefully against available resources.

In this assessment, you are a community task force member who is responsible for developing a disaster recovery plan for the community you have focused on in earlier assessments using the CERC for your crisis communication plan, which you will present to city officials and the disaster relief team. You will use the community from your windshield survey OR you may select a community from the document provided in this assessment.

**Note**: Complete the assessments in this course in the order in which they are presented.

    **Preparation**

For this assessment, you will use the community from your windshield survey OR you may select a community from the
[Assessment 3 Supplement: Disaster Recovery Plan [PDF]](https://courseroom.capella.edu/courses/38914/files/7048489/download). You will then develop a brochure, storyboard, or poster communicating the plan for the local system city officials, and the disaster relief team.

    **Instructions**

Use the following steps to gather the information you need to create your disaster recovery plan. Then follow the grading criteria as the guide for what to include and how to structure your brochure, storyboard, or poster.

    1. Develop a disaster recovery plan for the community that will lessen health disparities and improve access to services after a disaster. Refer back to the community chosen for your health promotion plan.

    · Assess community needs.

    · Consider resources, personnel, budget, and community makeup.

    · Identify the people accountable for implementation of the plan and describe their roles.

    · Focus on specific Healthy People 2030 objectives.

    · Include a timeline for the recovery effort.

    2. Focus on the following areas in your crisis communication plan:

    ·
    **Information gathering.**

    · This is critical not only to promote situational awareness but also to receive feedback on messages and how they are received and interpreted. Media monitoring and analysis, including social media, is a central function because the media remains a source of timely information during any crisis. Close coordination with other response agencies and partners, and their public information officers (PIOs), to gather the most current information is also critical.

    · Use the demographic data and specifics related to the disaster to identify the needs of the community and develop a recovery plan. Consider physical, emotional, cultural, and financial needs of the entire community.

    ·
    **Information dissemination.**

    · This includes using a variety of channels to reach multiple audiences. These activities include general media relations, working with designated spokespersons, organizing news conferences, and providing briefings and updates. Inquiries and questions from the general public must also be addressed and should be documented through contact logs. In addition, officials and other key leaders must be briefed. These information dissemination activities should extend to web support and social media.

    ·
    **Operation support.**

    · This involves a variety of communication activities, including addressing special needs and multilingual audiences through translation and other services. Facilities’ support activities involve ensuring sufficient communications capacity to support operations.

    ·
    **Liaisons.**

    · They can provide two-way communication and coordination with key stakeholders and partners. Close coordination is necessary to achieve an effective response and create consistent messages.

    · Provide support for your position.

    Assessment 3

    · Include in your plan contact tracing of the homeless, disabled, displaced community members, migrant workers, and those who have hearing impairment or English as a second language in the event of severe tornadoes.

    3. Develop a brochure, storyboard, or poster of your disaster recovery plan. You can use one of the free templates available on the

    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

STEM and society related topic. We will break this process into 3 submissions. Here in Week 2, you will identify your topic choice and submit it for approval. By Week 7, you will have conducted research to write a paper that discusses the way your choice is approached in 2 different societies.

Identify a STEM issue, invention, or mindset.

    •    Examples of issues could be climate change, global sustainability

    •    Examples of mindset could be government support for STEM, the military-industrial complex, societal integration and expectation of technologies

    •    Examples of inventions could be augmented reality, biohacking, genetically modified foods/organisms

Submit this as a word document. It is important to consider and refine your topic early however, as it could be very easy to become side-tracked or 'lost in the weeds' of possibilities. Your submission should be one paragraph in length, identifying your topic and why you think it is appropriate for this course. You need to include at least 1 reference indicating this is a feasible research topic.

Your topic choice submission will be evaluated using the attached grading criteria. It is important to note that you must do more than just name your topic: some preliminary research is needed to ensure this is a viable choice.
