    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

    ## **Instructions**
Presentation #1 has several parts. The main deliverable will be a video presentation which you will post in the Discussions area. You will also upload your PowerPoint and a copy of your video file in the Assignments area. Here is a breakdown of what you need to do:
    1) Create a PowerPoint presentation with at least 1 slide for each of the following:
    1. Title Slide (Name of your Information System, your name, course name, and your professor’s name)
    2. Purpose of the Information System
    3. Users of the Information System (identify different types/categories of users, and what they use the system for)
    4. Server-Side Hardware of the Information System
    5. Server-Side Software of the Information System
    6. Client-Side Hardware of the Information System
    7. Client-Side Software of the Information System
    8. Three Main Functions of the Information System (include screenshots) [This should be at least 3 slides – one per main function].
    9. References (list your references in APA format)
**Note:** You may reuse what you posted in the Week 2 Discussion as appropriate for some of the above slides.
    2) After you have prepared your PowerPoint presentation, you will need to record a 7-10 minute video presentation. You can use any video / screen recording software that you already have on your computer. If you have a Zoom account, the “Record” function in Zoom, combined with the ability to share your screen (and thus display your PowerPoint) is very handy for making videos. If you don’t have screen recording software, you should be able to find and download a free screen recording program on the internet, such as the ones in this article ( [16 Best Free Video Recording Software [2023] (screencapture.com)](https://www.screencapture.com/blog/best-free-video-capture-software.html)).
    3) Your presentation should have two parts:
    1. First, share your screen and display your PowerPoint in Slide Show mode, and discuss the topics on each of the slides in your PowerPoint. Remember that it is best to put bullet points on your PowerPoint slides, and to explain and elaborate on them verbally as you are showing the slides (rather than putting paragraphs on the slides and reading them).
    2. After you finish showing and narrating your PowerPoint presentation, you should then log into your information system and give us a virtual tour of the system, showing us the main features and functions in the system and explaining what the user can do in the various areas of the system.
**Note:** When choosing your information system, I advised you to stay away from systems that contain confidential or personal information. Be mindful when giving us a tour of your information system to not display anything confidential or personal in your video.
    4) When you have finished recording your video, upload it to a post in the “Week 3 Presentations” thread in the Discussion area. Make sure you embed the video in the post itself, rather than just a link to an external hosting site like YouTube. APUS requires all work to be submitted and archived in the classroom.
    5) In the Assignments area, upload your PowerPoint and your video file to this assignment and submit it for grading.
    6) Return to the Discussion thread and view some of your classmates’ videos. Reply to at least two classmates, giving them feedback on their video and telling them what you learned from them.
    **Grading Breakdown:**
    PowerPoint Slides 20%
    Presentation Video 70%
Discussion Board replies to 2 Classmates’ Videos 10%

    ### **Overview**
To help integrate what you are learning each week, as well as to help you illustrate your growing subject matter expertise, you'll complete a weekly blog-style post that focuses in some way on one or more of the topics covered that week.  Each post must be a minimum of 100 words in length (including the post title) with no maximum limitation.  They should be tailored to fit the personal/professional brand or expertise that you’re trying to develop.  Note that this semester, you'll upload the 8 posts for this course to the WordPress website that you’ll develop in your E-Marketing course.
Your weekly application posts should go beyond merely reiterating what was covered in the course materials. They should show your target audience(s) how to apply marketing concepts, techniques, or technologies to real-world problems or opportunities for which they have an interest.  Your posts can be serious, light-hearted, tell stories or experiences, give advice, offer critiques of marketing practices you encounter, make comparisons across companies or techniques, describe innovative marketing practices, predict the future of marketing, etc.  The key is that they must be (1) informative to your target audience and (2) pertain in some way to the week's material for this course.  Other than that, you have free reign.  Remember that the tone, style, voice, and mood of your writing is up to you, but you should always consider what would work best for your target audiences.  You may even decide to have a general theme to your posts, perhaps staying focused on a particular industry or region or marketplace.
    #### **Ideas for this week's Application Post**
Below are some ideas of topics or areas that you could write about for this week's materials. **Note that these are only prompts to get your creative juices flowing; you can use one of them or make up your own!** You can write about one of the the main topics from one of this week's modules or just a small mention of something that sparked your curiosity (or anything in between).  Remember, your post must be (1) informative to your target audience and (2) pertain in some way to the week's materials for this course.
    1. How can you use the “design with the end in mind concept” to form successful research plans? **and** – how can you apply this same concept to other aspects of your business?
    2. What types of research questions are better suited for qualitative vs. quantitative research?

    Overview

Veterinary medical practice is multifaceted, exciting, and challenging. Just as there are marked differences in medical

treatment approaches across species, nutritional and other daily care concepts can vary greatly among different types of

animals, even between dogs and cats. The life stages within a species correspond to specific, differing feeding as well as

other care requirements. Also fascinating is the special bond between humans and animals, which enhances the life and

    health of both.

As healthcare professionals, veterinary technicians play a special role in promoting health and supporting animals during

end-of-life phases. The purpose of this research project is for you to strengthen your skill set related to animal nutrition,

reproductive assistance, and end-of-life stage support and to know how to best help clients with pet loss by understanding

    and communicating the human-animal bond.

    Instructions

This research project includes four parts on which you’ll be graded (three topics and paper composition/format).

You’ll research and write about each of the following areas:

    1. Small Animal Clinical Nutrition and Feeding in Large Animal Production

    2. Theriogenology

    3. Hospice Care and the Human-Animal Bond

There’s no required minimum or maximum page length, but the recommended length is two to three pages per topic.

Although you’ll be discussing three topics, be sure to format your assignment as one complete essay with introductory and

    concluding paragraphs separating each topic.

Read each question carefully, and be sure to thoroughly research each topic. Ensure to answer all parts of each topic

comprehensively. Use reliable resources when researching the topics. Avoid editable sources such as Wikipedia. Sites like

PubMed provide original research papers that may be beneficial.

Part 1: Small Animal Clinical Nutrition and Feeding in Large Animal

    Production

In this section of the research project, discuss the factors to consider and the procedures involved in providing assisted

    nutrition for hospitalized patients.

A 12-year-old dog with advanced renal failure was recently hit by a car and hospitalized. The dog has a jaw fracture and can’t

eat. For three days before the accident, the dog showed a decreased appetite and wouldn’t eat.

    Now, consider the following questions:

    1. What are the assisted feeding method options available for this dog? What factors would you consider for each

when deciding on the feeding approach? Based on these factors, which is the best choice for this dog?

    2. Identify the most common mechanical complications associated with the assisted feeding method, and describe

the measures taken to prevent and address these complications.

    3. Discuss common metabolic complications of the assisted feeding method and the factors that contribute to these

    complications.

    4. What discharge instructions would you give the client, including guidance on how to continue with the assisted

    feeding at home?

Now, you’ll investigate the feeding requirements for a sheep wool production business.

A client who started a Merino sheep farm seeks veterinary guidance regarding care and feeding for optimal wool

    production.

    Consider the following questions:

    1. What amino acid is essential for wool production, and what feed components/types are good sources of this amino

    acid?

    2. Breeding of ewes will produce new stocks of sheep used for wool. What feeding measures are important to ensure

healthy gestation? Indicate the special feeding needs during the last trimester.

    3. What makes lambs susceptible to enterotoxemia, and how can this be prevented nutritionally and medically?

    Part 2: Theriogenology

In this section of the research project, you’ll discuss camelid reproduction.

    Consider the following questions:

    1. How does ovulation proceed in alpacas, and what’s the typical frequency of dominant follicle appearance?

    2. What physiologic and anatomic qualities are examined during a breeding soundness exam for a male llama? What

parameters are evaluated for semen quality?

    3. Identify three infectious diseases that can cause abortion in llamas and alpacas, and investigate preventive

measures that can help reduce the risk of infectious, disease-related pregnancy losses in camelids.

Part 3: Hospice Care and the Human-Animal Bond

This section of the research project allows you to apply your knowledge of assisting clients and their pets through the

    hospice care process.

    Consider the following questions:

provide supportive care for as long as possible. What feeding and medical recommendations would you give the

client to help care for their cat, who, in addition to being geriatric, is diabetic?

    2. The cat has limited mobility but doesn’t show signs of much pain. How would you instruct the client on how to

prevent decubital sores in the cat?

    3. Given its limited mobility, the cat spends a considerable amount of time in recumbency and often urinates in that

position. What advice and instructions would you provide the caregiver regarding complications associated with

the cat’s urination while in recumbency?

    4. The cat’s caregiver asked when they should consider euthanasia. What criteria regarding quality of life would you

evaluate to determine when euthanasia may be the best option for the cat?

    Project Specifications

To complete your graded project, follow the guidelines given here:

    1. The research paper must be typewritten using a word processing program such as MS Word or equivalent. Use 12-

point Times New Roman font and double spacing.
