    **## Module3SLPtempMGT511.docx**

You have been asked to give a 10-minute presentation to a college’s undergraduate HRM class. You have decided to use the following case scenario to spearhead the discussion.

    .

    **An Attractive Benefits Package?**

Susan greeted Beutan, her next interview applicant. Beutan had an excellent academic record and appeared to be just the kind of person Susan’s company, Jones Investments, was seeking in an investments technician. Susan is the staffing specialist for Jones and had already interviewed two individuals for the position.

Based on the application form, Beutan appeared to be the most promising candidate to be interviewed that day. From his past experience it looked as if he could be in his mid-forties. His address showed that he lived 45 miles away from the Jones facility. The application stated that Beutan achieved a 3.7 GPA in his master’s courses, with a 4.0 in his major field of finance. He achieved his degree a year ago by working during the day and attending classes at night. Beutan was not only treasurer of his district’s financial planning association but also served as volunteer on the high school’s financial advising committee. The recommendation letters in Beutan’s file revealed that he was both active socially and a rather intense and serious student. One of the letters from Beutan’s full-time employer of four years boasted a notable work ethic.

Beutan was laid off due to a cutback in business and was looking again for full-time work.

Susan knew that discussion of benefits could be an important part of the recruiting interview. But she did not know which aspects of Jones’ benefits program would appeal most to Beutan. The company has an excellent profit-sharing plan, although 80% of profits distributions are deferred and included in each employee’s retirement account. Health benefits are also good. It also has long-term care insurance but no short-term care. The company’s medical and dental plan pays a significant portion of costs. A company lunchroom provides meals at prices about 65% less than outside prices. Employees get one week of paid vacation after the first year and two weeks after two years with the company. Five days are provided each year for sick leave. In addition, there are 7 paid holidays each year. Finally, the company encourages advanced education, paying for tuition and supplies for courses directly related to an employee’s job. Under certain circumstances, employees are allowed time off to attend classes during the day. Jones also provides a 50% daycare discount for employees with young children.

After you have read the above situation carefully, respond to the following questions in a slide presentation of about 10 slides.

    ·
**What aspects of the Jones Investments benefits program are likely to appeal to Beutan? Explain.**

    ·
**What aspects of the Jones benefit package would likely be the least appealing to Beutan? Discuss.**

    ·
**In today’s work environment, what other benefits offered by employers might be attractive to Beutan? Why? Share examples of best-practice benefits offered by employers (discussing at least two employers by name).**

Use at least 2 library sources to help strengthen and support your presentation.

Prepare 10 slides and add a voice-over component (in PowerPoint). Be sure to present a list of references at the end of your presentation.

Submit your presentation by the module due date.

    **SLP Assignment Expectations**

_Your paper will be evaluated using the criteria as stated in the SLP rubric. The following is a review of the rubric criteria:_

    ·
**Assignment-Driven:** Does the paper fully address all aspects of the assignment? Is the assignment addressed accurately and precisely using sound logic? Does the paper meet minimum length requirements?

    ·
**Critical Thinking:** Does the paper demonstrate graduate-level analysis, in which information derived from multiple sources, expert opinions, and assumptions has been critically evaluated and synthesized in the formulation of a logical set of conclusions? Does the paper address the topic with sufficient depth of discussion and analysis?

    ·
**Business Writing:** Is the essay logical, well organized, and well written? Are the grammar, spelling, and vocabulary appropriate for graduate-level work? Are section headings included? Are paraphrasing and synthesis of concepts the primary means of responding, or is justification/support instead conveyed through excessive use of direct quotations?

    ·
**Effective Use of Information:** Does the submission demonstrate that the student has read, understood and can apply the background materials for the module? If required, has the student demonstrated effective research, as evidenced by student’s use of relevant and quality (library?) sources? Do additional sources used provide strong support for conclusions drawn, and do they help in shaping the overall paper?

    ·
**Citing Sources:** Does the student demonstrate understanding of APA Style of referencing, by inclusion of proper citations (for paraphrased text and direct quotations) as appropriate? Have all sources (e.g., references used from the
_Background_ page, the assignment readings, and outside research) been included, and are these properly cited? Have all sources cited in the paper been included on the
    _References_ page?

    ·
**Timeliness**: Has the assignment been submitted to TLC (Trident’s learning management system) on or before the module’s due date?

The Drug Court Program is part of the community criminal justice program. The Drug Court Program is a well-known criminal justice program in my area. It is meant to be an option to jail time for nonviolent offenders who have problems with drugs. This program works with the court system and helps people who are addicted to drugs by giving them organized treatment plans, supervision, and rehabilitation services. Drug courts try to keep people from breaking the law again by focusing on treatment instead of penalties. This leads to long-term recovery and less stress on the criminal justice system (Mitchell et al., 2017).

    Mission and Goals
The Drug Court Program's goal is to make the community safer and cut down on drug-related crimes by giving criminals a chance to get better through court-supervised treatment. The program helps nonviolent offenders who have problems with drugs by giving them access to therapy, medical care, and job training.

    These are the goals:
Getting convicts to stop abusing drugs as a reason for their criminal behavior in order to keep them from getting arrested again. Promoting Rehabilitation: Encouraging long-term sobriety by providing a wide range of care and support services. Marlowe et al. (2016) say that organized and supervised drug rehabilitation can help make communities safer by lowering drug-related crimes.

Program Results That Can Be Measured
In order to figure out how well the Drug Court Program works; you should look at these three measured results:

Repetition Rate Reduction: Keeping track of how many times program members are arrested within one to three years of finishing the program to see how well it worked at keeping people from committing crimes again.
Substance Use Reduction: Testing participants for drugs on a daily basis during and after the program to see what percentage of them stay sober.
Employment and Social Stability: Looking at the number of program members who get and keep a job or stable housing after the program ends, which shows long-term rehabilitation success (Marlowe, 2018). The Drug Court Program can make sure it works to reduce drug-related crimes and make the lives of its participants better by focusing on these results.

I am originally from Toronto, Ontario. There are quite a few criminal justice programs in my community but the one I will be discussing today will be the John Howard Society of Toronto, which runs the Crossroads Youth Program (CYP). This program was designed and set up to help the youth in Toronto, and help keep them out of trouble with the law. It is primarily focused on those who come from minority backgrounds. It also gives a focus to African-Caribbean youth, youth who are of age 16 and older, and those who are at a higher risk of getting involved in crime, due to things like poverty, discrimination, and lack of support. The program is designed to help with mentorship, one on one guidance, and still having youth partake in culturally relevant activities, to help the youth and younger people make better choices. It is also a way to help support their families and communities to help foster and create a more safer and positive environment (John Howard Society of Toronto, n.d.).

Many youth in Toronto, especially those who come from marginalized communities, are consistently overrepresented in the criminal justice system. CYP is set up to help tackle this problem. They assist by giving the youth the tools and support that they need to succeed and excel. This is done through education, job training, or even personal development. The main focus and goal of all this is to work to reduce crime by addressing the root causes, rather than being focused on punishing young offenders (John Howard Society of Toronto, n.d.). Research has also shown that community based intervention programs are a lot more effective than punitive measures in reducing youth crime (Boldt, 2019).

The mission and goals of the program are focused on helping people turn their lives around and be able to create safer communities. The mission lays in the empowerment of those who are involved in the justice system to make positive changes (John Howard Society of Toronto, n.d.). The CYP program is able to fit this into their mission by helping at risk youth find better paths, whether it is through school, work, or personal growth. They also help by providing culturally relevant programs, this is to help address some of the unique challenges and hurdles faced by African-Caribbean youth. And bringing a focus on families and communities, so that the root issues are combatted, and young people have a strong positive environment to grow in.

I believe that to see if the program is being implemented correctly, or even working, three outcomes should be focused on and the program should incorporate and assess. That includes lower re offending rates. By tracking how many youth are able to stay out of trouble after completing the program. By measuring and keeping track of the numbers, if fewer people who were part of the program end up back in the system, that is also a sign of success. Another outcome of this program includes better education and job opportunities. By constantly checking in and seeing how many participants of the program are going back to school or getting  jobs after completion of the program is vital. If more youth are on a stable path, and working towards change and betterment of themselves, that means the program is working and making a difference. Another outcome of this program can include stronger family and community support. This can be measured through seeing how many families and community members continue to stay involved and help and support these young people. By having a stronger family and community support, this strong support system helps youth stay on track as well (Public Safety Canada, 2020).

By focusing on these goals, the Crossroads Youth Program can help at-risk youth turn their lives around and make Toronto a safer place for everyone.
