    **Colleague 1**
    India Holmes,
**Capital Budgeting Methods to Support Decision Making in AML Technology Investments**
As an Assistant Vice President within Bank of America’s Global Operations AML Refresh Department, I frequently participate in strategic decisions regarding technology investments that enhance compliance effectiveness and operational efficiency. One recent decision involved evaluating the replacement of our existing Know-Your-Customer (KYC) refresh system with an advanced, machine-learning-driven automation platform. This proposed system required a multimillion-dollar investment and was expected to yield substantial cost reductions, improved data accuracy, and measurable compliance risk mitigation making it a prime candidate for capital budgeting analysis.
    **Example of Capital Investment Decision**
The project involved an initial investment of approximately $4 million for technology acquisition, system integration, and staff training. Expected annual cash inflows of roughly $1.2 million were projected through labor savings, reduced rework costs, and minimized regulatory exposure. Because this initiative involved significant upfront costs and long-term financial implications, leadership required an objective assessment of its financial viability using capital budgeting methods such as Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), Payback Period, and Accounting Rate of Return (ARR).
According to Franklin, Graybeal, and Cooper (2019), these methods enable managers to evaluate competing projects, prioritize resource allocation, and ensure that organizational investments align with profitability and strategic objectives. Each method offers a different perspective NPV and IRR emphasize the time value of money, while ARR and Payback Period focus on accounting performance and liquidity (Franklin et al., 2019, Sections 11.1–11.5).
**Preferred Method: Net Present Value (NPV)**
For this decision, the Net Present Value (NPV) method was the most appropriate analytical tool. NPV discounts future cash inflows and outflows to their present value using the company’s cost of capital. By doing so, it captures the time value of money and provides a single dollar figure representing the project’s expected net contribution to shareholder value (Franklin et al., 2019, Section 11.3). In this case, NPV enabled us to determine whether the discounted value of projected cost savings would exceed the $4 million investment threshold. A positive NPV would indicate that the investment increases the bank’s overall value and aligns with its strategic mission to optimize financial performance through technology modernization.
    **Rationale for Choosing NPV**
While other methods offer valuable insights, NPV provides the most comprehensive evaluation for long-term, technology-based capital projects. The Payback Period is easy to compute and explains liquidity recovery but fails to account for cash flows beyond the payback horizon or the time value of money (Franklin et al., 2019, Section 11.2). The Accounting Rate of Return (ARR) focuses on accounting profits rather than actual cash flows, making it less useful for cash-driven investment decisions. The Internal Rate of Return (IRR), though helpful, can produce ambiguous results when cash flows fluctuate or when comparing mutually exclusive projects (Walden University, 2024).
In contrast, NPV incorporates all expected cash flows, reflects risk through the discount rate, and aligns with corporate finance principles emphasizing value maximization. Franklin, Graybeal, and Cooper (2019, Section 11.5) assert that time value-based methods, such as NPV, are superior for evaluating capital investments that span multiple periods and involve uncertain returns.
Capital budgeting serves as a vital decision-making framework that bridges financial analytics and strategic management. Within the AML Refresh Department, applying the NPV method ensures that investments in compliance automation not only improve operational control but also deliver quantifiable value to the institution. By leveraging time value-based methodologies, managers can make informed, data-driven decisions that balance regulatory demands with sustainable financial performance.

    Kimberley Kangalee,
**Using Capital Budgeting Methods to Evaluate Investment Decisions**
In my professional experience, one decision that required the use of capital budgeting methods was when Republic Bank considered upgrading its ATM network. The project involved a significant in-depth investment for new machines, installation, and software integration. Still, it promised long-term benefits such as lower maintenance costs, faster processing, and improved customer satisfaction and convenience. As Franklin, Graybeal, and Cooper (2019) explain, managerial decisions like these go beyond reviewing financial statements and require tools that provide forward-looking insights for evaluating long-term investments.
Several methods could be used to assess the project. The payback method is simple and measures how long it would take to recover the initial investment, but it ignores the time value of money and cash flows beyond the payback point. The accounting rate of return (ARR) highlights profitability relative to the investment but also disregards the timing of cash flow. The internal rate of return (IRR) accounts for discounted cash flows and compares expected return to the cost of capital, though it can give misleading results when cash flows are irregular or when projects differ in scale (Walden University, LLC, 2024).
For this decision, I would choose the present net value (NPV) method. NPV discounts future cash inflows to their present value using the cost of capital, ensuring that the timing of cash flows is properly considered (Walden University, LLC, 2024). A positive NPV would indicate that the project is expected to add value to the bank. Compared to the other methods, NPV provides the clearest and most comprehensive measure of long-term financial impact. This aligns with the role of managerial accounting in supporting decisions that shape an organization’s future performance (Franklin et al., 2019).

    **Account for Management Decision Making**

    **Week 8 Assignment**

**Organizational Performance Analysis and Recommendations- Part 1**

You have been hired by a midsize copper smelting company in northern Canada to act as a consultant and help the executive team determine its best course of action on a major decision. Due to some recent changes to the local environmental air quality laws, the company’s large coal-fueled smelting furnace is now operating out of compliance due to high levels of pollutants in the exhaust gases. The regulatory agency has given the company 12 months to demonstrate compliance, after which it will be fined $1,000 per day until the operations meet the regulation. The company has two alternatives. The first alternative is to install air scrubbers to reduce the output pollutant levels. The second alternative is to convert the smelting furnace from coal to natural gas. Both alternatives will meet the current regulatory requirements, but there is a slight concern that the air scrubber solution may not meet future regulatory restrictions. The executive team wants you to perform a financial performance analysis on both alternatives using several different capital budgeting methodologies. The team also is seeking guidance on non-financial considerations regarding the company’s ethical and social responsibilities related to this decision.

The product of your financial performance analysis will be a report for the executive team. In addition to the requirements that follow, be sure to incorporate references to appropriate academic sources, such as those found in this week’s Learning Resources or in the Walden Library.

    **To prepare for this Assignment:**

    · Download Module 3 Assignment Template.

In these resources, you will study various accounting measurements that managers use to make decisions regarding the future of their company. Although most of the time the financial arm of the company will do the actual computations, it is important for managers to understand all of the measurements so they can apply them correctly to any situation.

    Hello,
There are always different methods of persuasion that can be utilized in the workplace. My tendencies are to outline the benefits of something to persuade for things to happen or being completed. I don’t think altering the truth is ethical and efficient, but providing information is always key for me. Outlining the benefits goes a long way. In regards to something that “must” be done, but there is little willingness to complete it, I still stand true to providing education and insight, I tend to lean towards educating on the “bigger” picture to enlighten others as well as expand their own thinking processes.
Benefits of Using Persuasion to Influence Others at Work
Utilizing persuasion effectively in the workplace can lead to enhanced collaboration and improved leadership outcomes. Emerald Works Limited (n.d.) highlights that persuasion fosters collaboration by aligning team members with shared goals, thereby encouraging cooperative efforts and reducing resistance to change. This alignment is particularly beneficial in project management and cross-functional initiatives, where collective buy-in is crucial for success. Additionally, persuasive communication is a key leadership skill that can inspire and motivate employees, leading to increased engagement and productivity. By presenting ideas compellingly and addressing the needs and concerns of others, leaders can cultivate trust and commitment, which are essential for achieving organizational objectives. Therefore, mastering persuasion techniques can significantly enhance interpersonal dynamics and drive organizational success.
To be an agent of positive change, will refer back to providing insight and education through being a role model and supervision. We want to educate and mold our staff to become the best versions of them that they can be. We also need to aid in developing their skill sets and thinking capabilities. Therefore, utilizing persuasion can guide them to do things that they wouldn’t normally do, because we are outlining the positives that can occur and the benefits that they can gain.

In a business setting, persuasion is an important skill to influence decisions, collaborate and create change for the better. I have used persuasion in two important ways at work. For instance, I was able to convince the team to use a new project management tool by showing them statistics on increased efficiency and shared the testimonials of other departments and demonstrated how the tool could help mitigate the amount of duplicate work and missed deadlines. Second, I shared the vision of a company-wide wellness initiative that emphasized the benefits of mental health support, increased productivity, and employee satisfaction which eventually gave leadership the resources to invest in the program.
The benefits of using persuasion in the workplace include the ability to increase collaboration and trust among employees and promote employee involvement in activities that lead to improved organizational performance. Finally, persuasion leads to shared vision; and by motivating colleagues to work towards meaningful goals together. However, one of the potential risks involved in the use of persuasion is the potential for the use to be misinterpreted as manipulation if not used in a transparent way, which can undermine trust. This risk can be addressed by making arguments evidence-based, being clear about intentions and ensuring that the voices of all stakeholders are heard when making decisions.
As a business professional and leader, I will leverage my persuasion skills to effect positive social change by: Support initiatives that promote positive social change in the workplace, support ethical practices, and embrace sustainability. Through clearly communicating, empathizing, and using facts and data to make the case for solutions that are beneficial for the organization and the larger community, I hope to influence my colleagues to buy into solutions that will have positive effects for a lasting time.

**Marketing Strategy for Good- Part 1**
The marketing world is a fast-paced environment where business promotes the buying and selling of products and services. While marketing includes advertising, selling, and delivering products to consumers or other businesses, there are many facets that need to be considered when developing a marketing strategy to ensure success for the business as well as the consumer.
For this Assignment, you will take on the role of a marketing professional to develop a persuasive marketing strategy for good. Your goal is to help society while being cognizant of the organization’s mission and goals. Your task is to design a social media/social marketing campaign for your organization that would promote diversity and inclusion and could help benefit the company. Your decisions must align with the company’s mission and goals. You may choose a well-known company or make up a mock organization and identify the tactics, strategies, and influencers needed to ensure your campaign will reach a diverse audience.
**For the purposes of this exercise, here are some guidelines:**
    – You will choose the company (or type of company) and create a narrative for the specific opportunity the business is considering (in other words why the company wants to do this and what benefit or position this campaign could give the company, as well as how it could promote      positive change).
    – Your selected organization could be a company where you have worked or with which you are familiar, or you could locate an example of a company and use it as the basis for your narrative.
    – Note: If you select a company with which you do not have personal experience, some of the questions related to the campaign specifics may be more challenging to answer; however, you should feel free to use your creativity to respond to the questions.
    – Provide information that will help you craft your narrative for the campaign. The purpose of this activity is to demonstrate your ability to think through and develop marketing solutions to business problems, not to have all the “right” answers.
    – Once you have selected your organization, you will need to identify a positive-social-change-related outcome/goal for the organization.
With those thoughts in mind, begin constructing your marketing campaign design document, being sure to incorporate appropriate examples, where applicable, as well as citations for relevant academic sources from the classroom, the Walden Library, and/or other appropriate scholarly sources to support your work.
Note: Your marketing campaign design document will be submitted over the course of 3 weeks. This week, you will submit Part 1. In Week 9, you will use the same document to develop and submit Part 2. In Week 10, you will finalize the document, to include Part 3.
    **To prepare for this Assignment:**
    – Refer to the guidelines for this exercise to choose a company.
    – Download Module 3 Assignment Template. Note: Be sure to keep a copy of your completed Assignment this week, as you will be adding to the same file for your Weeks 9 and 10 Assignments.
**Part 1: Laying the Foundation for Persuasive Marketing Tactics (2-3 Pages)**
    – Examine the selected organization, its mission (and goals, if available), what products or services (or both) it offers, and its customer base, including any sub-groups that might currently apply.
    – Use your creative license to identify a positive-social-change-related outcome/goal for the organization that will be used as the basis for the social media marketing campaign. (In other      words, in what way is the company trying to bring about positive social change, be a force for good, etc.?)
    – Synthesize the business opportunities and goals for the marketing campaign. (In other words, what is the expected/desired outcome?)
    – Describe the persuasive marketing tactics that will be used to execute your campaign strategy.
    – Analyze the internal strengths and weaknesses and external opportunities and threats that this opportunity presents for the company (SWOT).

    **Persuasion and Positive Social Change**
In this course so far, you have begun to engage with the idea of persuasion as it applies to marketing. In the Week 5 Discussion, you reflected upon a buying experience in which you were persuaded, through marketing efforts, to make a purchase. Now think back to leaders you have known or observed who were particularly good at persuading others toward a shared vision or common goals. What was it about their persuasive approach that made it particularly compelling? Were there ever any negative consequences of them employing persuasion?
As you continue to develop your own skills of persuasion, consider how you might use those skills most effectively to make a positive impact through your life and work. In this Discussion, you will consider the risks and benefits of using persuasion to influence others and will share with your colleagues how you might use your own skills of persuasion to bring about positive social change.
    **To prepare for this Discussion:**
Review the following videos on persuasion. As you watch, consider that persuasion is an important employability skill that empowers individuals to influence outcomes, build relationships, and drive positive change in the workplace. Persuasion facilitates effective leadership and management by enabling individuals to convey ideas with clarity and conviction, facilitating mutually beneficial outcomes, and inspiring teams to rally behind a shared vision.

    – Consider how you have exhibited persuasion within a business setting.
**Post** a summary of the role of persuasion in a business context to promote positive social change, to include the following:
    – Describe at least two ways in which you have used persuasion in a business environment. Be specific in your response.
    – Identify at least two benefits of using persuasion to influence others at work. Identify at least one potential risk of utilizing persuasion in a business environment and how a person can work      to overcome those risks.
    – Explain how you, as a business professional and leader, will use your own skills of persuasion to be an agent of positive change.
