    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

    Read Chapter 8

Your short answer is based on the readings and videos.

    Guidelines to answer each question:

    1. Each question should be answered in 1-2 paragraphs of at least 5-7 sentences each paragraph.
    2. Incorporate corresponding terminology (review chapter).
    3. Review grammar and mechanics

**You will be asked to answer the following list of questions:**

    01. Identify and describe two possible reasons for individuals' becoming "nontouchers" in our society.
    02. Explain “marasmus” and what it says about the importance of touch.
    03. In what situations is touch increased? **Please give two specific examples**. Remember that the situations usually imply underlying themes of power, intimacy, and emotion.
    04. Another method of categorizing the various types of touching is based on the functions of the messages communicated and ranges from less personal to more personal types of touch. Accidental touches and aggressive touches seem to be a part of the intimacy continuum but are not presented in this list: (1) Functional/professional, (2) social/polite, (3) Friendship/warmth, (4) Love/intimacy, and (5) sexual arousal. **Please pick two of the five categories and explain in detail.**
    05. Why and how is touch used as healing?
    06. Gender and relationships influence touching patterns. How?
    07. Touching is the most effective method for communicating; in others, it can elicit negative or hostile reactions. The meanings we attach to touching behavior vary according to what body part is touched, how long the touch lasts, the strength of the touch, the method of the touch, and the frequency of the touch. **Please give an example and explain in detail.**
    08. What are the functions of touch? List and define.
    09. How does touch impact human development? What are the effects of touch deprivation? What is the difference between touch deprivation and touch avoidance?
    10. How does culture impact touch? Provide two specific examples of touching differences between USA and a high context culture.
    11. Based on “ **Harlow’s studies on dependency on monkeys” video**, what did Harlow discover in this study and why is it important for human interaction?

    SUPERVISION CASE STUDY PROJECT

In this course, you will complete a final project on identifying and resolving supervisee/trainee

performance issues in the workplace. The objective of this assignment will be to create a brief

presentation that demonstrates your ability to pinpoint performance issues, identify potential

solutions, and measure the success of an intervention.

For this project, you will either:

    • Report a real-life performance issue experienced by yourself or colleagues, or

    • Create a hypothetical scenario of a performance issue in the workplace

Using the Performance Diagnostic Checklist – Human Services (provided to you during Module

7), you will analyze a pinpointed supervisee/trainee behavior from your situation/scenario and

determine a potential intervention to implement and strategy for measuring success.

You will present your assessment and intervention process via a 5-10 minute PowerPoint (or

similar) presentation. You may choose to present via recording or live during your Module 9

virtual live class. Both recorded and live presenters must submit their presentation slide decks

in Canvas (preferably in exported PDF format), and both the slide decks and recorded

presentations must be submitted at least 24 hours before the Module 9 live class.

    SUPERVISION CASE STUDY PROJECT

    1. Title Slide

    • Should include your name and general title of your presentation (e.g., Repeated Delay in

    Data Collection)

    2. Scenario Slide

    • Describe a staff performance issue you’ve observed or experienced or write a hypothetical

scenario of a staff performance issue in the workplace. Include contextual information,

including the setting, relevant relationships between individuals in the scenario/situation,

and environmental variables that will help inform your PDC-HS process later.

    3. Pinpoint Slide:

    • Pinpoint the staff behavior of interest for increase or decrease. Ensure that your definition

follows all the requirements of a high-quality pinpoint (measurable, observable, passes the

“dead person’s” test, not a non-behavior, etc.) Please review content in Module 3 for a

    refresher on appropriate pinpoints.

    4. PDC-HS Slides (x4):

    • Conduct a mock PDC-HS related to your scenario and briefly describe your findings for each

section on separate slides. You should have a slide each for:

    o Training

    o Task Clarification and Prompting

    o Resources, Materials, & Processes

o Performance Consequences, Effort, and Competition

    SUPERVISION CASE STUDY PROJECT

    5. Intervention Slide:

    • Select the intervention that you believe will have the greatest impact on the behavior of the

supervisee/trainee member. Provide a list of resources needed to implement the

intervention (including people, time, funding, etc.), and a task analysis of the steps you

would take to put the intervention in place.

    6. Measuring Success Slide:

    • Describe what data you would collect to determine if the intervention was successful and

how you would collect those data. For a refresher on measurement strategies, please

review the content from Module 3.

Whether the presentation is recorded or live, it is expected that the presenter will speak clearly, so that all

words are audible. It is also expected that the presenter will be prepared and articulate the information on

the slides in a smooth and controlled manner (i.e., deliver pertinent information without long pauses or

    repetition of filler words).

Today’s HR professionals are expected to measure the success or failure of HR practices based on the achievement of organizational outcomes. Brand identity, bottom-line profitability, employee job satisfaction, and increased management focus are all outcomes that can be achieved in part through an organization’s total rewards program.

This case examines a fictitious M. K. Makey organization and how it aligns its total rewards programs with its organizational goals and values.

    Read the
    _The Makey Case_.

    **Case Assignment**

You have been asked to write an
**opinion piece** for a local newspaper in which you address the following:

    1.
**Analyze the practice of companies offering their own products to enhance the total compensation of its employees.**

    2.
**Is this a common practice in U.S. organizations? Give real-life examples (employers by name). In your educated opinion, do you think this is a good idea? Why or why not?**

    3.
**Make recommendations regarding an expansion of the benefits programs offered at Makey’s. Justify your recommendations with outside sources.**

    Use at least
**3 library sources &/or module sources** to help strengthen and validate your discussion. Also, utilize actual employer examples (stating employers by name) from your readings/research.

Submit your paper by the module due date. Paper length:
**3-4 pages** (not counting the cover and reference pages).

    **Assignment Expectations**

_Your paper will be evaluated using the criteria as stated in the Case rubric. The following is a review of the rubric criteria:_

    ·
**Assignment-Driven:** Does the paper fully address all aspects of the assignment? Is the assignment addressed accurately and precisely using sound logic? Does the paper meet minimum length requirements?

    ·
**Critical Thinking:** Does the paper demonstrate graduate-level analysis, in which information derived from multiple sources, expert opinions, and assumptions has been critically evaluated and synthesized in the formulation of a logical set of conclusions? Does the paper address the topic with sufficient depth of discussion and analysis?

    ·
**Business Writing:** Is the essay logical, well organized, and well written? Are the grammar, spelling, and vocabulary appropriate for graduate-level work? Are section headings included? Are paraphrasing and synthesis of concepts the primary means of responding, or is justification/support instead conveyed through excessive use of direct quotations?

    ·
**Effective Use of Information:** Does the submission demonstrate that the student has read, understood, and can apply the background materials for the module? If required, has the student demonstrated effective research, as evidenced by student’s use of relevant and quality (library?) sources? Do additional sources used provide strong support for conclusions drawn, and do they help in shaping the overall paper?

    ·
**Citing Sources:** Does the student demonstrate understanding of APA Style of referencing by inclusion of proper citations (for paraphrased text and direct quotations) as appropriate? Have all sources (e.g., references used from the Background page, the assignment readings, and outside research) been included, and are these properly cited? Have all sources cited in the paper been included on the References page?

    ·
**Timeliness:** Has the assignment been submitted to TLC (Trident’s learning management system) on or before the module’s due date?

**Q.2 Write a reply/response for this (Responses and comments must be substantive in content and at least 200 words.)**

As stated by Cohen and Strong (2020), no other family is exactly like one’s own family (p. 3).  Every family is unique, and our uniqueness comes from where we live, our financial resources, cultural backgrounds, and our experiences and the circumstances we face (Cohen & Strong, 2020, p. 3).  Family is a group of people who are put together by the hands of God.  Family, generally in the form of blood relatives, are a group of people who face both great experiences and trials and no matter what stick together and form bonds that are unbreakable.  Family, both big and small, help us as humans become the people we are.  Not every family structure is a strong one, and unfortunately, we sometimes have to learn from the mistakes of our family members in order to grow as individuals. The four basic functions of family include providing a source of intimate relationships, acting as a unit of economic cooperation and consumption, producing and socializing children, and assigning social statuses and roles to individuals (Cohen & Strong, 2020, p. 12).  Families provide a sense of intimacy which is a primary human need (Cohen & Strong, 2020, p. 12).  Family members are a constant support system for many individuals, and whether you are successful or make mistakes, these individuals are there to help us grow and are consistently loyal and loving.  Families also provide economic cooperation.  Family members often are sources of goods and services that if produced or provided by outsiders would require expenditure of considerable sums of money (Cohen & Strong, 2020, p. 13).  As many understand, families are also important in producing and rearing children to replace older members of the families as they pass.  Men and women come together to naturally produce off spring and then with the bonds of families, they work together to shape an individual as they see fit to be members of societies (Cohen & Strong, 2020, p. 14).  Without our families laying the groundwork for how we should act, we would be unsure of what is deemed acceptable and unacceptable.  Lastly, our family is responsible for developing social statuses and roles.  Our identity is strongly formed by families of orientation, procreation, and cohabitation, and with these roles given to us by our families, we are expected to act a certain way, obey our parents, and help our siblings (Cohen & Strong, 2020, p. 16).
