    Bowman

Educational change is a complex process of initiation, implementation, and continuation. All three processes require meticulous planning and a sense of commitment by all stakeholders (Fullan, 2016). Initiation starts when the need to address an identified issue is recognized. This phase has to do with data collection regarding the nature, assessing available resources, and engaging stakeholders such as educators, administrators, and members of the community in putting together an effective plan of action. Without proper backing at this stage, one would meet challenges to implementation in the future.

Implementation is a phase when strategies have to be put into effect. This was also the stage when constant monitoring should have taken place to see if there are any changes that have been put in effect on the ground. Difficulties encountered here may include resistance, lack of resources, and vague expectations. Ready implementation requires the support and training of the ongoing processes while allowing adjustments to suit the needs of the organization.

Continual support helps ensure that changes are going to become embedded in the system. Otherwise, with disappearing funds or rotating leadership, policies are easily forgotten. For change to be meaningful, it requires articulation, consideration of flexibility, and most importantly, continuous professional development to ensure the growth of change. (Fullan, 2016)

The causes and processes of initiation are described as rooted in a combination of external pressures, such as governmental reforms, and internal opportunities for schools to improve (Fullan, 2016). Initiation often involves stakeholders recognizing a need for change and mobilizing resources to address this need.

Fullan argues that the implementation and continuation of change require strategic planning and adaptation. The causes include both the pressures from initial goals and the need for continuous support and resources. Successful implementation involves aligning new practices with existing structures and maintaining stakeholder engagement through the phases of change.

Fullan highlights that planning and coping with change necessitate a flexible yet structured approach. Educators and leaders should anticipate resistance and setbacks, cultivating a culture of learning and collaboration to effectively navigate challenges. Adaptation, openness to feedback, and sustained professional development are crucial for lasting change.

n this journal, you will reflect on your current understanding of what it means to be an
early childhood administrator. This reflection is an opportunity to connect theory with
practice by identifying the skills and knowledge you believe are essential for success in
this role. Through this reflection, you might start to recognize the alignment between
your current abilities and the demands of leadership, helping you set goals for personal
and professional growth throughout the course. Reflect on your current understanding of
what it means to be an early childhood administrator.
    Completing a Skills Self-Assessment
    To prepare for this journal,

    • List five to seven skills or areas of knowledge that you believe are critical for an early
    childhood administrator. Examples might include

    o leadership and vision-setting
o effective communication with families and staff
o understanding and implementing developmentally appropriate practices
    o conflict resolution and decision-making
    o program planning and evaluation
    o budgeting and resource management
o advocacy for children and families

    Rate Yourself
For each skill or area, rate your current level of confidence on a scale of 1–5 (1 = very little
    confidence, 5 = very confident).
In your journal, reflect on the results of your self-assessment. Which skills do you feel
strong on, and which ones do you want to focus on developing during this course?
    Consider
    Consider the following questions:

    • How does this self-assessment align with your expectations for the course and your
future goals as an early childhood administrator?

    • What do you believe are the primary responsibilities of an early childhood
administrator? How do these responsibilities impact the quality of the program and
the experiences of children, families, and staff?

    • What skills and knowledge do you think are essential for someone in this role? Think
about areas such as leadership, communication, decision-making, and
    understanding child development.

    • How do your current skills and experiences align with the demands of this role?
What areas do you feel confident in, and what areas do you hope to develop further
    throughout this course?

Next, draft your reflective journal entry by following these instructions:
    • Your journal entry should be at least 500 words.

    • Include specific examples or experiences that have shaped your understanding of
the role of an early childhood administrator.

    • If you are new to this role, reflect on what you have observed in others or what you
    anticipate as challenges and opportunities.

    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

    TASK

“Music-making activities such as listening, playing instruments, singing, movement, creating music, and reading music provide the modes for students to express themselves musically” (Lindeman & Hackett, 2010, pg.45)

    After READING Chapter 3 pp.15-45, and pg 280 of the text book; and after SINGING along to CD tracks 1-24; and after watching the movie link “If you are happy,” while singing along, clapping your hands and moving;

Explain your own singing skills. For example what areas need improvement? Identify some situations where you can sing, such as university ensemble or church groups. Share what you know about children’s vocal development and singing. Discuss your own movement experiences. Did you play singing or rope-skipping games? What movement activities were you introduced to in school? Did you study ballet? Dance to popular music? How are your experiences the same or different from today’s children and how will this affect your teaching? etc. ( **50 points**).

Areas that need improvement: Don't be ashamed to sing out, be willing to try even when the note or tone isn't correct. Put more of myself into my singing and not just sing a song. Put my feelings into what I am singing.

I currently sing in my church choir, I also sang on the praise and worship team at my high school. I would love to sing in a university choir and have the opportunity to travel and sing.

When I was a little girl I loved to sing all the time no matter how it sounded I would always sing and be asked to be lead singer. I have watched old videos where my mom would record me singing and my voice was so scratchy and raspy. But as I got old and I listened to recordings of myself singing I can notice a big change in my voice. I am now able to listen to a song and find the correct note that a song is to be sung in.

As I think back I do not recall playing singing or rope-skipping games at all to be honest. The only movement activities that I can remember would be hopscotch, jump rope, ring around the rosie and musical chairs and we even play that now at family and church gatherings.

I did not study ballet but my mom did enroll me into a christian dance center that I enjoyed so much, even today I do praise dancing.

I have always loved to dance even as a young adult I enjoy dancing and learning all of the new TikTok dances and line dances.

Because I am only 19 years old I am still able to stay in-tune with the newest and latest dances that are out. I feel that at my age I will be able to relate and interact with my students when I comes to the latest dances and music.

    Assessment Description

As part of a collaborative team, other teachers will likely reach out to you for ideas, support, and guidance when they have struggling or at-risk students. It is helpful to provide them with guiding questions to gain the necessary information, identify evidence-based research, and provide targeted strategies for specific needs all while communicating in a professional and respectful manner.

Imagine you are part of a K-3 PLC team and your colleagues come to you seeking instructional advice. Some of your colleagues are asking for your input on how to support students' struggling with specific literacy skills. Write a 150-250 word response to each scenario that includes the following information:

    · Describe at least two effective instructional practices based on the Science of Reading.

    · Provide ideas for one short-term and one long-term literacy goal for each student.

    · Create at least one follow-up question you could ask the teacher while providing advice.

    · Identify any other professionals the teacher could collaborate with in the school or community to support the students who are struggling with reading.

**Scenario 1**: One of the second-grade teachers has a student who has been receiving small group instruction in phonics. When progress was monitored last week, the student’s accuracy score dropped 7 points. In reviewing the errors, the teachers noticed he is missing vowel teams, which has been the focus of the small group instruction. What additional ideas and strategies can you provide the teacher to support this individual student?

**Scenario 2**: As the end of the year approaches, one of the kindergarten teachers has a small group of students that has not mastered the skill of recognizing rhyming words. The students can produce word families, but when given two words they are not able to recognize if they rhyme or not. What strategies can you provide the teacher to help this small group of students master the skill?

**Scenario 3**: A third-grade teacher has a student who is a fast and accurate reader. She can answer multiple-choice questions but cannot retell them on her own. When asked to retell, she stares at the teacher with a blank face. How can the teacher support her in further developing her comprehension skills?

**Scenario 4:** A first-grade teacher has a student who has been identified as having dyslexia. She reads very slowly, often making many mistakes. How can the teacher support her in further developing her fluency?

Support this assignment with a minimum of three scholarly resources.

While APA Style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected. Source documentation should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide located in the Student Success Center.

This assignment uses a rubric. Before beginning the assignment, review the rubric to familiarize yourself with the expectations for successful completion.

You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. A link to the LopesWrite technical support articles is in Class Resources if you need assistance.
