    ## QSO 321 Project Guidelines and Rubric
    ### Competencies
In this project, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following competencies:
    – Recommend operations management methods and techniques to increase value for customers
    – Evaluate how operations management generates value for an organization
    – Explain local, national, and global sustainability in relation to functional areas of business
    ### Scenario
You work as the chief supply-chain officer at the large international corporation, NationaliTeas. NationaliTeas manufactures and sells tea worldwide. Its motto is “Keeping people and their taste buds awake (when they want to be awake).” Its mission is “Make the world more awake through rejuvenating and refreshing beverages and sustainable practices that uplift workers, communities, and souls.” Its vision is “to be the most respected tea manufacturer across at least three continents for our tea and our actions, which will be driven by a commitment ethical sourcing, minimal waste, and empowerment of our employees.”
You would like to establish an operational goal of having your corporation apply for a B Corp Certification within the next two years. You believe this would add value to the organization and help it to prioritize a stronger focus on sustainable operational practices. You have conducted a preassesment based on the recommendations for applying for B Corp Certification, and you have evaluated the corporation’s existing strengths and areas for improvement.
Now you need to develop a proposal for the board of directors that explains why prioritizing the triple bottom line (TBL) through working toward B Corp Certification has organizational value. You must also propose three high-impact initiatives to help strengthen the corporation’s commitment to people, planet, and profit based on your evaluations.
    ### Directions
Specifically, you must address the following **rubric criteria**:
    1. **Part One: Justification of Benefits**: Justify the value of intentionally increasing incorporating the TBL framework into organizational decision making. Identify how ethical business practices regarding people, planet, and profit can benefit society, the environment, and the company’s profit. Specifically, address the following prompts:
    1. **Key Components**: Explain the three key components of the TBL framework and how each component benefits businesses and society.
    2. **Organizational Value**: Provide a justification regarding the value and benefits of using the TBL framework to inform corporate decision making and explain connections between the organizational mission and the organizational vision.
    3. **B Corporation Benefits**: Briefly describe the organizational benefits of attaining B Corp Certification.
    2. **Part Two: Operational Recommendations**: Read the “Project Preassessment Evaluation Summary” which is linked in the Supporting Materials section below for each aspect of the TBL (people, profit, and planet). You will need to provide a detailed description of the initiatives that will create the needed improvement. You should note the organizational and societal value of the initiative along with the operational management techniques recommended to plan and complete each initiative. For each of your three initiatives, address the following prompts:
    1. **Organizational Impacts**: Describe the organizational benefits of each initiative, specifically noting the expected positive impact of completing each. Examples of positive impacts include better alignment to the organization’s mission, vision, and culture statements; increased amounts of funds or resources saved; and improvements to the organization’s brand.
    2. **Societal Impacts**: Describe the societal benefits of each initiative, specifically noting the expected positive impact of completing each. Examples of positive impacts include increased community building and positive environmental impact.
    3. **Customer Impacts**: Describe the consumer benefits of each selected initiative, specifically noting the expected positive impact of completing each. Examples of positive impacts include increased alignment to target markets, improved product access and availability, and improved customer satisfaction.
    4. **Business Risks**: Explain the business risks associated with prioritizing, planning, and resourcing each initiative and how these risks will be considered and monitored.
    5. **Operational Management Techniques**: Recommend an operational management strategy or technique (for example, project management, lean manufacturing, or Six Sigma) that is appropriate to implement for each selected initiative and explain why.
    6. **Defining Requirements and Scope**: Define the requirements for the successful implantation of each selected initiative and its scope. Describe how changes to the requirements and scope would impact timelines, budget, and risk.
    7. **Roles and Responsibilities**: Explain the key internal and external stakeholders involved in planning and implementing each selected initiative and why each identified stakeholder is needed to successfully implement the initiatives.
    ### What to Submit

    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

    #### **Scenario**
Healthy Dynamics is a corporate wellness company that provides a broad range of wellness services for clients seeking to improve the health and wellbeing of their employees. One of the clients of Healthy Dynamics is not happy with their employee wellness program participation rates. Healthy Dynamics is not meeting the contract requirements of 60% engagement, resulting in lost revenue for the company and no return on investment (ROI) for the client. According to the contractual agreement, Healthy Dynamics must pay back the client $200,000,000 if the annual participation percentage is not met. Currently the client’s wellness program includes financial incentives for the employees if they complete the following wellness offerings (health assessment, biometric screening, and telephonic health coaching). The Healthy Dynamics CEO is now foreseeing a need to offer other healthcare services. The CEO has asked the Account Manager to create a business plan focused on increasing revenue and identifying risk that might negatively impact their continued relationship with the client. The Account Manager has tasked you, the Strategic Planning Manager, with preparing an internal memo to present to the CEO and to communicate to your internal team what you are envisioning as a desired future focus area to increase the bottom line for Healthy Dynamics and improve current and future client satisfaction rates.
    #### **Instructions**
Develop an internal memorandum that includes:
    – A detailed description defining the differences between business planning and strategic planning in healthcare.
    – Identify a specific focus area in the healthcare industry that could increase revenue.
    – Create key questions that you will need to address in the development of your strategic plan for your focus area.
Create a workflow analysis flow chart that includes:
    – A list of healthcare leadership team members (e.g., CEO, Strategic Planning Manager, Account Manager, Marketing Manager, Project Manager, Financial Analyst, etc.,)
    – A comprehensive analysis of each team member’s roles and responsibilities in the development of the strategic plan.
    – Your assignment should include a title page, a reference page, and a minimum of three scholarly sources, two of which must be retrieved from the Rasmussen Library.

    **Mary Jane**

When evaluating possible site locations, managers typically follow a structured framework that balances both quantitative and qualitative factors. Quantitative factors include measurable costs such as rent, transportation expenses, utility rates, and labor costs while qualitative factors focus on the human and environmental aspects, like community quality, proximity to customers or clients, and local regulations (Heizer et al., 2023). For a property management company supporting military housing, proximity to base operations, security requirements, and accessibility for families are key qualitative considerations. Quantitative data might include construction costs, commuting time, and maintenance logistics for on and off base sites.

Today, both manufacturing and service organizations use a variety of facility layouts. Common layouts include process layouts such as grouping similar activities or equipment, product layouts such as arranging resources in sequence for flow efficiency, cellular layouts like mini production units for flexible work, and fixed-position layouts where the product or service stays in one place, such as construction or maintenance work. Service organizations often use hybrid or functional layouts combining people, workstations, and digital systems to balance customer interaction and efficiency. A good layout minimizes wasted motion, improves communication, and ensures safe, smooth workflow (Stevenson, 2021).

In the property management office, I’m familiar with how the facility follows a process-oriented layout. Administrative teams handle vacancies, maintenance scheduling, and resident services in separate functional areas. While this structure supports specialization, it can slow down communication especially between maintenance coordinators and housing reps. A
cellular layout where small cross-functional pods handle both vacancies and maintenance requests for specific housing zones, might improve speed and reduce bottlenecks. That type of design would encourage more collaboration and accountability within smaller focused teams leading to better service for military families and fewer delays.

When evaluating alternative site locations, managers typically use a framework that considers both qualitative and quantitative factors. Quantitative factors include land costs, labor costs, utilities, taxes, and proximity to suppliers or customers. Qualitative factors involve community environment, government support, quality of life, and workforce skills (Heizer et al., 2020). Both need to be balanced because a low-cost site might reduce expenses, but it also compromises labor availability or long-term strategic goals. A systematic evaluation often employs weighted scoring models to rank potential locations. Facility layouts in manufacturing and service operations encompass various types, including product layouts, such as assembly lines, process layouts, functional groupings, cellular layouts for product families, and fixed-position layouts, which are often utilized for large projects, such as ships or buildings. Effective layouts reduce movement, minimize bottlenecks, enhance communication, and promote safety and employee morale. In my organization, the current layout resembles a process layout, where similar functions and equipment are grouped. While this offers flexibility, it can also lead to inefficiency, as time is often wasted switching between departments. A cellular layout can boost efficiency by grouping resources based on product families, thereby reducing transportation time and improving workflow. However, any change must be justified by weighing the costs of redesign against long-term productivity gains.
