    **MWP #1**

    **Mind Map Instructions**

**Purpose:** Mapping out your ideas helps with the writing process, and for some, seeing that process visually helps with organization. Before diving into writing, you will spend some time collecting your thoughts and how those thoughts function in your essay.

**Assignment**: Create a power point that is a both
    **written** and a
**visual** representation of your thoughts. Tip: Use your brainstorming activity from the essay instructions.

**Constraints:** You will create a 7-slide power point that establishes a visual flow chart of your essay. The power point will need to include the following:

    · Heading Information MLA format (slide #1)

    · Introduction (slide #2)

    · Thesis Statement (slide #3)

    · 3 key terms (slides #4, #5, #6)

    · Conclusion (slide #7)

**Complete your Brainstorming activity found within the essay instruction before you attempt this assignment.**

    **Components:**

**Introduction:** Your introduction is a way to help the reader understand what the main idea is of your essay, or what your essay will be comprised of. Think of your reader as a person who knows nothing about what you have learned or read about. Meaning provide background information about the major subject, here you should provide a minimum of
    **four sentences**.

**Thesis:** Your thesis should do two things, help the reader transition from your introduction into

the body of your essay and support the ways you have chosen to argue your main idea. Your thesis should include your key terms and be presented in the same order you have selected for your body paragraphs (Chronologically, Logical, or Importance). Your thesis should be only
    **one or two sentences.**

**Key Terms:** First work on the body of your essay (labeled Key Terms there should be 3 for this essay); doing so helps you focus your ideas before attacking the introduction or your thesis. Write a minimum of
**three-four sentences** about each key term. Your key terms should flow in order, whether that be (Chronologically, Logical, or by Importance). The order you choose should in some way link itself to the next key term.

**Conclusion:** After you have your key terms in order, focus on what you want, the reader to take away from your essay. (The Conclusion). Write
**three sentences** with your reader in mind. What are you trying to help the reader understand, take on as their own beliefs, and or what do you want the reader to do with the information you have provided?

**Research:** You should be using your knowledge for this essay.
**DO NOT use google** to gain information. If you need to further your knowledge you can obtain Scholarly journals/ articles from the following approved search engines; Jstor, and libraries Data Base. I have provided you with these links within the course forum. Make sure to keep notes of your research (if needed) for both in text citations and a work cited page.

A Profile of Mexican American Culture in the United States
    Mind Map

    xxxxx
    Professor xxxxx
    xxxxxx

    xxxxxx

    Introduction

Mexican Americans are the largest Latino subgroup in the U.S.

Their culture blends Mexican traditions with American experiences.

Outsiders often view them through stereotypes of food or holidays, but the reality is much deeper.

This culture influences beliefs, education, and social practices in significant ways

    Thesis Statement

Mexican American culture demonstrates the importance of family and belief systems, education, and social preferences, which together shape identity, resilience, and community life in the United States

Key Term 1: Family and Belief Systems

Family is central: extends beyond the nuclear household.

Familism values loyalty, respect, and collective responsibility (Tsai et al. 6).

Roman Catholicism plays a large role, but newer generations blend traditions with modern influences.

Cultural celebrations like Día de los Muertos and quinceañeras express both faith and family ties.

    Key Term 2: Educational Resilience

Historically, Mexican Americans faced systemic barriers in schools.

Many are bilingual, balancing Spanish at home and English at school.

Families use “funds of knowledge” to guide children’s educational paths (Kiyama 4).

Education is viewed as a reflection of family pride, not just individual success.

    Key Term 3: Social Preferences

Community life often revolves around food, music, and festivals.

Events such as fiestas or cookouts reinforce cultural pride and resilience.

Outsiders are welcomed, though traditions hold deeper meanings for insiders.

Social gatherings link generations and create belonging.

    Conclusion

Mexican American culture is more than stereotypes, it is rooted in family, education, and social life.

It shows resilience and adaptation while maintaining pride in heritage.

Students who engage with Mexican American peers should recognize their traditions as central to identity and community

**Negotiating the Nurse Practitioner Employment Contract**

    ![A close-up of a doctor AI-generated content may be incorrect.](https://www.sweetstudy.com/questions/assigment-apa-seven-all-instructions-attached-20942911)

_If you could work at the practice of your dreams, what would that look like? How would you negotiate that dream job contract?_

Graduating from nurse practitioner school is an exciting time of accomplishment. However, it’s also time to turn dreams into reality and begin your search for the perfect job. Being passionate about the specialty you would like to go into, and the impact you would like to have on your community and profession are all important aspects of landing a job. After all, attitude can be everything to a future employer, but there are some things to consider
**_before_** your job search and interview: The type of practice that would work best for you (and your family), and the position contract you will negotiate.

For this assignment, you will develop a PowerPoint Presentation (8-10 slides) answering the questions listed in Parts 1 and 2 of the assignment. The presentation is to be recorded in your own words, as if you were presenting it to your instructor. You are to use the audio produced by PowerPoint and not an Mp3 file.

You are to follow the 10/20/30 rule for presentations: no more than 10 slides, presentation not longer than 20 minutes, and text is not lower than 30-point font.

    **To Prepare:**

    · Review the weekly resources.

    · Seek out professional resources on contract negotiations.

    · Review the FNP scope of practice for your state.

    · Seek out local NP organizations to assess which organizations would best fit your needs.

    **By Day 7**

Submit the recorded PowerPoint presentation. (This assignment does not need to be submitted through Turnitin) but you must have a reference slide to support your thoughts and ideas.

**For Part 1 of this assignment:**

    1. Discuss the type of practice and setting you would like to work out of (specialty, family, geriatrics, hospital, nursing home, hospice, urgent care, etc.). What makes for an ideal work environment? What type of support system and staff do you need? What services do you see yourself providing? What services are you NOT willing to or are not comfortable providing?

    2. How will you meet your CME requirements while practicing at this setting? How will you keep track of your CME hours?

    3. What nursing organization(s) interest you in joining, and how will joining an organization benefit you at your position?

    4. Once you have met the requirements for autonomy in your state while working at your current position, and for those of you who practice in a lifetime of collaboration state, assume you will one day have autonomy. How will you maintain your collaborative relationships with other nurse practitioners you have worked with, the practitioners you have referred to, as well as your collaborative physician?

    **Part 2 of the assignment:**

You’ve just been offered a position at the perfect job you discussed in Part 1 of the assignment.

Besides focusing on patients, reaching a fair and equitable contract that includes not only your salary and benefits but expectations of your patient load, the amount of time you will be spending at the clinic or a health care setting, and the services you will be providing, will affect how you feel about your job over time. It’s time now to consider the position’s job offer.

    Part 2:

    1. What questions should you ask your potential future employer about the offer?

    2. What salary and bonus structure are acceptable to you?

    3. How can you figure out your net worth for the practice?

    4. If you are expected to take call, what percentage of your salary is reasonable toward this activity?

    5. List the benefits you should negotiate into your contract.

    6. Discuss the practice expectations with your employer. How can you be sure that you are being asked to practice within the scope of your practice?

**Account Tools and Measures for Decision Making- Part 4**

For this Assignment, you will continue in your role as consultant to the Better Chair Company. During the past 3 weeks, you have completed two reports for the company’s leadership on various accounting tools and measures that impact decision making. This week, the focus of your final report will be the use of break-even analysis.

In addition to the requirements that follow, be sure to incorporate references to appropriate academic sources, such as those found in this week’s Learning Resources or those in the Walden Library.

    **To prepare for this Assignment:**

    · Download Week 7 Part 1 Assignment Template.

    · Download Week 7 Part 2 Assignment Template.

    · Your instructor will provide part of the data to complete the calculations for this week’s Assignment. To access that information, refer to
    [Doc Sharing](https://waldenu.instructure.com/courses/184427/modules/items/7761484).

Submit your completed business report and accompanying Excel file. Your report should be 2–3 pages in length (excluding title page and references) and should address the following:

    **Break-Even Point**

The final area you have been asked to evaluate is related to the company’s feasibility to produce a new product, an ottoman. The management team wants to understand the quantity and sales needed for this product to be profitable. To determine this, you decide to conduct a break-even analysis to calculate the number of ottomans, and the total sales needed for the company to break even. In
[Doc Sharing](https://waldenu.instructure.com/courses/184427/modules/items/7761484), your Instructor will provide you with a scenario for The Better Chair Company to use for this part of the Assignment.

To complete this part, address the following:

    · Using the Week 7 Part 2 Assignment Template and the data provided by your Instructor in the
[Doc Sharing](https://waldenu.instructure.com/courses/184427/modules/items/7761484) area, calculate the number of sales per month (i.e., the number of ottomans and total dollar amount) the company will need to make in order to break even.

    ·
**Note:** In addition to submitting your work in Excel, include your calculations within your report by copying and pasting the information from Excel.

    · Synthesize the results of your calculations to determine the feasibility of the company to make a profit based on the sales & marketing projections and recommend solutions to the management team that would help to ensure profitability for the ottoman project.

    · Summarize how understanding and utilizing break-even analysis can impact managerial decision making.

    **Break- Even Decision Making**

It is essential that companies understand when they will start to be profitable. Finding the point at which revenue is equal to costs is called the break-even point. For example, a company that sells motorcycles needs to know how many must be sold each month to cover all costs. It is only after that number is sold that the company will start to make a profit.

    Week 6 assignment concept map

    – ## Week6assignment.txt

    **## Week6assignment.txt**

The Concept map: Narrowing Down Your Topic
In previous coursework, you used a mind mapping tool to start exploring a potential research topic. While the mind map is a useful strategy to start brainstorming a topic in an unstructured way, a concept map takes this a step further by providing a more structured visual framework to document and organize research articles, find new relationships between ideas, and narrow in on specific components of that research (Davies, 2011).
Throughout the second half of this course, you will be introduced to multiple practical tools that can support you as you investigate a potential research topic. The concept map is one such tool, and it offers a visual strategy to document findings. The visual approach affords you the opportunity to step back and review the “bigger picture,” and then you can physically draw or connect additional observations you may not have seen in a more linear spreadsheet or word processor format.
In this Assignment, you will use a concept map to narrow down the research topic you selected for your Discussion.

    To Prepare
    • Locate two additional empirical articles related to your chosen research topic. This will give you a total of five articles, including the three articles from your Discussion this week.
    • Review the article by Davies in the Learning Resources
    • In previous coursework, you focused on the mind map section of this article. Now focus on the concept map section (pages 282–286).
    • Watch the video, Concept Map Exercise Walk-through, in the Learning Resources
    • Review the Example of a Concept Map and Citationsdocument.
    • Open the Concept Map Template from your Learning Resources.
    Complete the two-part Assignment.
    Part 1:
Submit a concept map based on your chosen research topic that you will potentially use in your capstone or dissertation.
    • Type your potential research topic in the top-tier box of your concept map.
    • Using your research from this week, place your five research articles in the next tier of your map.
    • Under each of the five articles, write in a minimum of three concepts from the article. What stood out to you? This could include similar key words, locations, or participant demographics. It could also include something from the problem statement or results, or possibly something you observed in the research methods, assumptions, or underpinnings.
    • Connect the three concepts under each article with a vertical line and in between each connection, note any initial observations—what are the vertical relationships?
    • Now, observe connections in the concepts across the five empirical research articles. Connect those concepts with a horizonal line and note any observations—what are the horizontal relationships?
    Part 2:
Submit a 1- to 2-page paper that addresses the following:
    • Briefly, describe your research topic that you placed in the top tier of your concept map.
    • Describe what you did differently when researching your two additional articles for this Assignment. How did your Discussion this week inform any changes you made?
    • Explain the vertical connections you made under each of your research articles. What do these connections tell you as you continue your research?
    • Explain the horizontal connections you made across your research articles. What do these connections tell you as you continue your research?
    • Based on the concepts and connections you documented in your concept map, what are some possible opportunities to narrow your topic?
    Remember
    • Your paper should be double spaced.
    • Use literature to support your claims.
    • Review APA guidelines. Your paper should conform to APA guidelines.

There is a delicate balance between legal requirements, ethical responsibilities, and human reactions' effect on employee evaluation and feedback. Organizations need to design performance systems that are both legally compliant and perceived as fair by employees. By ensuring fair and ethical employee evaluations, the performance management system can effectively motivate employees and support performance throughout the organization. A fair and ethical performance management system provides managers with a good foundation for performance discussions with employees.
However, not all performance discussions are perceived positively. Therefore, it is important that organizations train managers and employees on the benefit of performance discussions and how they can be conducted effectively. Some organizations also use pay for performance strategies to reward employee performance, so it is important that employee performance is evaluated accurately.
Read the following article: [Employee Performance Evaluation Laws: 2025 Guide to Key U.S. and Global Regulations](https://teamflect.com/blog/performance-management/employee-performance-evaluation-laws).
    – What laws should be considered when conducting a performance evaluation?
    – When conducting performance evaluations, what can managers do to prevent discrimination?
    – What ethical principles should be considered when rewarding employee performance?
    – As a manager, what would you do if an employee disagreed with their performance review?

    September 21, 2025

    1) I am interested in the topic of elder abuse and neglect

    2) Elder abuse and neglect is a serious topic which is oftentimes a hidden social issue that may include but not limited to physical abuse, financial exploitation, neglect, and abandonment of older adults. This can occur in homes, nursing facilities, and various community settings. This topic directly connects to social work practices due to social workers being on the front line of identifying or reporting elder abuse and promoting their safety and autonomy. This issue intersects with ageism, mental health, caregiver stress, and underfunding that goes towards services targeting the aging population.

    3) a) Approximately 1 in 10 adults over the age of 60 in the U.S. have experienced some form of elder abuse, but only 1 in 24 cases are reported to authorities ( National Council on Aging, 2021).

    b) In 2020, Adult Protective Services ( APS) agencies received over 1.3 million reports of elder abuse, neglect, or exploitation in the U.S. ( Administration for Community Living 2022).

    c) The global population aged 60 and older are expected to double by the year of 2050, placing growing pressure on elder care systems and abuse prevention efforts (World Health Organization, 2021).

    4) The policy I will focus on is the Elder Justice Act (EJA), which was originally passed as a part of the Affordable Care Act in 2010 and is the first comprehensive federal legislation to address elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

    **Instructions**

    **Section 1**

    1. Review the detailed outline for the final assignment (module 13 and/or the Signature Assignment Kickoff posted in Module1).

    2. Be sure your policy is going to work for the assignment. Review the examples below and review feedback on your Module 4 assignment. Remember, in Module 4 you identified your social issue and policy for this assignment.

    3. Start to collect and read the literature you will need to answer the specific questions outlined in the final policy analysis assignment. Note that the expectation is that you will use a lot of sources — the minimum is 10 – in the final paper. That is because you need different kinds of sources to answer different kinds of questions.

    · you will need both research articles (peer-reviewed, from the social work/related literature) and sources that provide you with statistics/facts about your topic (these may be government websites, sources, etc.)

    · you may also need sources that help you write about the history, etc. – these could include your textbook, other books with broad overviews of policy, websites that provide policy overview, etc.

    · for all of the sources, ask yourself if you're looking at "good" evidence — if you're looking at web-based sources are they from reputable think tanks or policy forums? Do they have a bias you need to understand as you read? Are they legitimate/good sources that you trust?

    An
**annotated bibliography** is a list of citations for various books, articles, and other sources on a topic. The annotated bibliography looks like a References page
**but includes an annotation after each source cited. An annotation is a short summary and/or critical evaluation of a source.**

    ·
    [Example Annotated Bibliography](https://uk.instructure.com/courses/2149757/files/114924509?wrap=1)

For this assignment, you will collect evidence/sources for your final policy analysis paper. In order to do so, you will compile an
    **annotated bibliography**(using APA format).

FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT, LABEL THIS AS SECTION 1: ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY

This bibliography will include at least eight references – of these, five should be from the peer-reviewed/academic literature and three should be government sources, textbooks, or other reliable sources.

You will provide appropriate APA format citations and a discussion/overview of the article/source – this should include:

    · what question(s) it will help you answer in the final paper,

    · any quotes you plan to use (cited appropriately),

    · any especially helpful information/a critical analysis of the document.

Information on Annotated Bibliographies can be found in Section 9.51 of the
_Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association_ (7th ed.)

    · The format of your annotated bibliography follow the same format as any APA paper.

    · Title page, page numbers, font style and size, etc. Consult your style manual and sample student paper for help with the formatting.

    · The order of references also follow the same style and order as on a Reference page

    · Alphabetical with hanging indents etc.

    · The annotation – the notes you have about the source – appear in a new paragraph below its reference entry, indented 0.5 inches from the left margin. These are written in complete sentences in an academic voice and tone.

    **Section 2**

THEN, COMPLETE SECTION 2: CONCEPTUAL PLANNING/OUTLINE per the instructions below.

**FOR THE CONCEPTUAL PLANNING/OUTLINE please demonstrate that you have started to “fill in the ideas” for the final assignment. These questions will help you build your draft that is due for peer review in Module 11.**

**It is not necessary to write your answers as a written paper – it is sufficient to answer each question. Below you have five questions to answer along with five examples of how a student might answer those questions.**

Answer each of these questions (these map to the outline/requirements for the final paper). When appropriate, link your answers to the articles/sources provided above in your annotated bibliography.

    1.
**Provide a two-to-three sentence overview of what your paper will be about. This should include both the problem/condition and the policy response.**

    ·
_Example: My paper will be focused on the Healthy-Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010 and whether that legislation has helped to effectively decrease child hunger in the United States. The problem of note is that kids in this country are still going hungry, with over 1 in 5 children experiencing hunger at any given moment (Cross, Clark, and Smittie, 2023, p. 1)._

    2.
**Provide an understanding of the history of the problem/highlight at least two key historical events/dates/acts, etc. that you will highlight in your paper. Here it is appropriate to talk about the history of the problem/condition as well as the history of the policy response – though in your paper you’ll build on each of those.**

    ·
_Example: I will talk about the original 1947 School Lunch Act legislation and the changes to it – but beyond that I’ll also talk about what led to the creation of that legislation to begin with – how the Great Depression socialized this US towards safety nets and how many people experienced hunger – opening the door for a policy response. I’ll also talk about the growing role of school as a place where more than education takes place as that shift is important in understanding the history of the current legislation and its school based programs. Beyond that, I will touch on other programs and policies that help hunger but that do not do enough – like WIC, SNAP, etc. I think I also need to talk about the relationship between hunger/being food insecure and obesity as that has shaped current responses. That is Obama era changes._

    3.
**Clarify what problem your chosen policy responds to.**

    ·
_Example: the policy I am examining is related to hunger. Hunger can hard to define but the USDA defines terms like “food insecure” and those can be defined/discussed as related to hunger. More specifically though, the policy responds to the need to have healthy food available for school lunches and to the relationship between obesity and hunger for low income kids._

    4.
**Consider the different and conflicting social values that “show up” in the development of legislation and social programs. Are there any values that you believe are prominently displayed within the legislation you’re researching?** _Here, you may need to read the preamble to the legislation, comments about it, etc._ **What can you find that helps orient you towards the values that shaped this policy response to a social problem?**

    ·
_Example: In the HHFK Act of 2010 there’s a lot of discussion about not just feeding kids but about what kind of food, about childhood obesity, etc. So I think some of the values here are specific to being healthy and active as well as related to what certain groups of people perceive of as appropriate and healthy food for kids. It seems like, from what I’ve read, most people in congress support the overall school feeding programs but maybe disagree about the specifics tied to what kind of food can be served._

    5.
**Based on the reading and research you’ve done this far, has the policy you’re analyzing been effective? What information are you using to generate that answer?**

    ·
_Example: So far it looks like the original intent of the School Lunch Act has been good – data in some of my sources shows that kids would go hungry if they did not have access to meals at school, summer feeding programs. This stays true w/ more recent legislation – the HHHK Act which extended/continued those programs. What is less clear is whether the focus on “healthy” food has made a difference in the lunch program, so whether the focus on obesity and healthy food has mattered. I have two articles that look at this. Because the legislation has many different components, I’m trying to focus in on the school lunch component of the Act. I can find more data. So, for now, I think it has been effective yes._

    #### Check Your Policy:

In order to collect literature and sources, you should
**finalize the policy you would like to focus on** for the assignment; the previous assignments should have helped you to hone in on your chosen policy for the final project. If you are not sure about your topic, the following scenarios may be helpful:

    · As a reminder, you may analyze a federal, state, or local policy that piques your interest & that is related to the practice of social work and vulnerable populations.

    · Please be sure that you are looking at a
**current** policy (e.g. the most recently reauthorized version of a policy if it has been reauthorized).

    · Be sure you are looking at something that has been voted on/is an actual policy, not something that has been introduced but not passed!

    · Additionally remember that you are looking for a POLICY – not a PROGRAM enacted because of a policy. Sometimes it is difficult to tease these out.

    **EXAMPLE 1:**

You're interested in safety net supports for households so you want to look at TANF — TANF is a PROGRAM (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) that was created by the 1996 Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity (PRWORA) Reconciliation Act — Public Law #104-193).That is a BIG piece of legislation – remember it amends the Social Security Act and Title 1 of that act that creates TANF replaces AFDC… "welfare" – as you've learned about in this and other classes…
**so, for the assignment you would be focused on the Act but could specifically narrow your discovery and analysis to Title 1 of the legislation.**

    **EXAMPLE 2:**

You're passionate about affordable housing and you have family members who have served in the military – so you want to look at housing related policy specifically for veterans. You might google homeless veterans’ policy and find the Helping Homeless Veterans Act of 2021 — sounds great! BUT…WAIT – you check the federal BILL TRACKER and find out this is legislation that has been introduced but not passed – thus it is not qualified for this assignment!

    **EXAMPLE 3:**

You are interested in child hunger and how to end it, so you decide that you will focus on the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. You’re most interested in school lunch, breakfast, and summer feeding programs but know that those are PROGRAMS created by the POLICY. The original policy was the 1947 School Lunch Act – which has been amended many times. So, you focus on this more current legislation as it has more bearing on the current situation in US schools and communities.

_As always, consult your section instructor if you have questions about your chosen policy._

    An
