**5-page professional guide** that not only
    _summarizes_ your research but also
    **critically evaluates** and
**applies** it to real-world procurement practice.

    Our Topic:

    ·
_How procurement professionals should approach selecting a new supplier_

Your guide must go beyond a generic overview and demonstrate
    **original analysis** and
    **team-based reasoning**. Specifically:

    · Identify
**contrasting approaches** or perspectives from academic and professional sources, and evaluate their strengths and limitations.

Jesus and Nick to research how their respective companies select new suppliers and contrast. Josh to research academic/professional sources

In our industry we use a four step approach with Tollgates between each step to align with key stakeholders.

    1. Project Definition

    2. Supplier Search & Evaluation

    3. Supplier Selection

    4. Supplier Onboarding

The project definition step usually involves a high-level overview of the project captured in A3 format with key requirements and a draft of the timeline for the project. The A3 will define the problem that needs to be addressed by defining the current/future state and what the benefits of the project are. This step also identifies the team, stakeholders and project lead.

Supplier Search & Evaluation is lead by the Sourcing Specialist to identify all potential sources through a variety of methods (Industry Publications, Conferences, Social Networks, Thomasnet, etc.). A pugh Matrix is used to analyze, rank and eliminate any suppliers to create a shortlist of those for final consideration.

Supplier Selection includes any legal agreements that needs to be signed such as an NDA and then proceeds with an RFI or RFQ. Once RFI/RFQ are received the Sourcing Specialist will summarize and recommend a supplier. This step may include a supplier visit depending on the commodity.

The final step is supplier onboarding which includes PPAP initiation, tooling purchases and PO placement.

    · Use a
**real or hypothetical organizational context** (e.g., healthcare, retail, manufacturing, education) to apply your findings.

    Both companies are manufacturing

    · Include a
**framework or decision tool** your team would recommend based on your evaluation.

See what other examples are in the textbook – Ryley & Ikjot researching this topic

Since both companies are in manufacturing, our team agreed that supplier selection and sourcing decisions need to be structured, data-driven, and easy to explain. We recommend using the
**Kraljic Matrix** to group materials and suppliers based on how much they impact profit and how risky the supply is. This makes it easier to see where the company should focus its attention and what kind of supplier relationships make the most sense. For example, high-risk, high-impact “strategic” items should have long-term partnerships and backup plans, while “leverage” items can be managed through competitive sourcing and price negotiations. It’s a simple way to make sure sourcing decisions fit each situation instead of treating everything the same.

    After that, we’d use a
**Pugh Matrix** to evaluate suppliers more closely. It’s a straightforward tool that helps teams compare different suppliers using weighted criteria like cost, quality, reliability, sustainability, and innovation. It also makes trade-offs easy to see and helps get everyone at the company on the same page. This keeps the decision process transparent and consistent, especially when there are strong suppliers in more than one area.

    Lastly, we would do a
**Total Cost of Ownership** analysis to understand the full cost picture beyond just the purchase price. That includes things like logistics, maintenance, and long-term performance. Using all three tools together gives a clear process: start with the Kraljic Matrix to prioritize, use the Pugh Matrix to compare options, and finish with TCO to find the best long-term value. This approach makes decisions more strategic, objective, and aligned with what actually drives results.

    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

    ## Overview
In this course, the learner-faculty assignment will be used for reflection as well as to discuss your preparedness for upcoming weeks. This is a private conversation between you and your instructor, and you are encouraged to explore the concepts presented.
You have already been provided with the target audience for the theme park, and you have already worked on the strategic marketing plan template, which contains a plan to address the park’s reopening needs. Now it is time to move on to aligning your marketing research efforts to _further_ connect with the target audience. The CMO requires you to determine the needed marketing research effort to connect with the target audience and their alignment with the vision, mission, and values of the global park organization. It will be critical to keep the organizational parameters of vision, mission, and values in mind as the strategies are determined and ultimately executed.
    ## Prompt
In this mentor-focused check-in, you will review the Project Guidelines and Rubric (the project is due in Module Nine) and have an asynchronous discussion with your instructor regarding any initial concerns about the same. You will also review the [Theme Park Vision, Mission, and Values](https://learn.snhu.edu/content/enforced/2012198-MBA-645-10330.202587-1/Course%20Documents/MBA%20645%20Theme%20Park%20Vision%2c%20Mission%2c%20and%20Values.pdf?isCourseFile=true&ou=2012198) document and outline the marketing research efforts and how they align with the vision, mission, and values of the organization.
You are encouraged to continue reaching out to your instructor, so any concerns and questions are addressed before the course project is due. Discuss your progress and concerns with your instructor through this video submission.
    Address the following criteria:
    1. Refer to the Theme Park Vision, Mission, and Values document and identify the key factors of **vision, mission, and values** in relation to the strategic direction.
    – How would the values of the organization influence the marketing strategy?
    2. Describe the **market research** efforts that should be conducted with your audiences before establishing a strategic direction. Consider what marketing channels are most suitable for the purpose.
    3. Share your **expectations and understanding** about the course project, including any questions or concerns you have regarding:
    – Marketing strategy
    – Methods to monitor results
    – Marketing objectives and KPIs
    – Role of a business intelligence department in reporting critical factors impacting marketing
    – Using outside digital (social) media monitoring firms to report consumer insights, opinions, and concerns
    – Feedback from previous milestones
If you have any additional questions or require additional support from your instructor, let your instructor know.

**Account Tools and Measures for Decision Making- Part 4**

For this Assignment, you will continue in your role as consultant to the Better Chair Company. During the past 3 weeks, you have completed two reports for the company’s leadership on various accounting tools and measures that impact decision making. This week, the focus of your final report will be the use of break-even analysis.

In addition to the requirements that follow, be sure to incorporate references to appropriate academic sources, such as those found in this week’s Learning Resources or those in the Walden Library.

    **To prepare for this Assignment:**

    · Download Week 7 Part 1 Assignment Template.

    · Download Week 7 Part 2 Assignment Template.

    · Your instructor will provide part of the data to complete the calculations for this week’s Assignment. To access that information, refer to
    [Doc Sharing](https://waldenu.instructure.com/courses/184427/modules/items/7761484).

Submit your completed business report and accompanying Excel file. Your report should be 2–3 pages in length (excluding title page and references) and should address the following:

    **Break-Even Point**

The final area you have been asked to evaluate is related to the company’s feasibility to produce a new product, an ottoman. The management team wants to understand the quantity and sales needed for this product to be profitable. To determine this, you decide to conduct a break-even analysis to calculate the number of ottomans, and the total sales needed for the company to break even. In
[Doc Sharing](https://waldenu.instructure.com/courses/184427/modules/items/7761484), your Instructor will provide you with a scenario for The Better Chair Company to use for this part of the Assignment.

To complete this part, address the following:

    · Using the Week 7 Part 2 Assignment Template and the data provided by your Instructor in the
[Doc Sharing](https://waldenu.instructure.com/courses/184427/modules/items/7761484) area, calculate the number of sales per month (i.e., the number of ottomans and total dollar amount) the company will need to make in order to break even.

    ·
**Note:** In addition to submitting your work in Excel, include your calculations within your report by copying and pasting the information from Excel.

    · Synthesize the results of your calculations to determine the feasibility of the company to make a profit based on the sales & marketing projections and recommend solutions to the management team that would help to ensure profitability for the ottoman project.

    · Summarize how understanding and utilizing break-even analysis can impact managerial decision making.

    **Break- Even Decision Making**

It is essential that companies understand when they will start to be profitable. Finding the point at which revenue is equal to costs is called the break-even point. For example, a company that sells motorcycles needs to know how many must be sold each month to cover all costs. It is only after that number is sold that the company will start to make a profit.
