    **50 Points**

As you continue to customize your learning path to learn and apply more information to your current life situation, this activity and discussion will prove helpful for navigating those frustrating times when you are depending on others to achieve a goal to your satisfaction.

**Watch all three of the following videos and refer to them in this discussion forum assignment.  Include communication terms from Chapters 11, 12, 13, and 14., and cite those terms with textbook chapter and section (or page) numbers and timestamps from the videos.**

Robert Kahn, Consultant, explains the "Thomas Kilmann Conflict Grid" (7.15 min)

14 minutes: "Conflict resolution in 6 simple easy steps".

**Directions:** For this discussion forum, you will have multiple steps to follow and complete in order to receive full credit.  Please read through ALL the directions BEFORE beginning any of the steps so that you will understand what you need to do.  Write clearly and proofread for correct spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.

**Step One:** Click on the link provided here, and it will take you to a survey about how you handle conflict.
[University of Colorado at Boulder Quiz: Find Out Your Conflict Style](https://www.colorado.edu/today/2021/09/21/quiz-find-out-your-conflict-style) Be sure to complete the survey before participating in this forum to learn a little about your preferred conflict management "type".  What you will find, are your tendencies or preferences for handling conflicts in your relationships as also described in your textbook on pages 112 – 118.

**Step Two (10 pts):** For this discussion, and after completing the online questionnaire,
**write the type of your conflict style in the subject line of the discussion forum** so that your classmates can quickly see.  This will be the type shown to you with the highest score on the report that appears after you submit the completed survey. If there is a "tie" for your types, provide both of them in the subject line.

**Step Three (65 pts.)** After reading the chapters in Module Three, in your OWN words, write a meaningful paragraph (approximately 300 words) explaining your conflict style and what resonates as particularly true for you when thinking about past conflicts in your life.  Include a brief discussion about your level of satisfaction with this preferred style — remembering that this is NOT the only style you use.  It might be the style that is the most comfortable for you to use most of the time…or not.  You tell us what you think.  As always, include quotes, terms, theories, and/or practices taught in one or more of the videos listed for this discussion AND from the Chapter readings.  Cite your sources in parentheses at the end of your sentences thusly: (video author at X min) or (textbook page XX).

**Step Four (25 pts):** Read what your classmates have written.  I'm sure that you will be able to find at least one classmate who has the same conflict style that you have.  (If not, select any student you wish.)  Respond to the classmate in an encouraging as well as meaningful manner (approximately 100 words).  Include a quote, term, theory, or practice taught in one or more of the videos AND/OR the textbook readings.  Cite your sources in parentheses at the end of your sentences thusly: (video by author at X min) or (textbook page XX).
_Note!  A "meaningful response" is NOT an agreement with what the classmate stated.  A meaningful response is connecting your classmate's posting to key terms, theories, or practices noted in the textbook with an explanation of WHY or HOW the behaviors are meaningful._

**Guidelines for Discussion:** Do NOT copy the prompts.

    ·
**Be respectful and open to different perspectives.**

    ·
**40 points:** Provide specific examples and clear explanations.

    ·
**5 points:** Engage with at least one classmate by asking a question of your peer.

    ·
**5 points:** Aim for thoughtful, reflective, and well-supported contributions to the discussion by referring to page numbers and/or section numbers from the textbook when using key terms and practices from the reading lessons.  Include citation for an AI tool used for assistance.

**Assignment:** Write a 2 to 3-page reflection essay based on ONE of the videos posted below.  Reflect on applicable theories from one or more Chapters in Module Three in your online textbook and explained further in posted videos in Module Three.  Use this as an opportunity to enhance your personal learning strategy tailored to your current life situation by focusing the communication you use and encounter in personal relationships.  Utilize a minimum of FIVE specific terms from the readings and videos provided.  Cite page number references and video timestamps in parentheses after using each term to support your observations and connections.  This approach will help you apply interpersonal communication concepts as a form of "self-help" while you learn, study, and understand theories.  Bold the terms for easy identification.

    **Instructions:**

    1. Watch all four of the posted videos.

    2.
**Select ONE video that resonates with you** in your life today and use the information contained in the video along with your readings to learn strategies for improved or different communication approaches.

    3.
**Answer the prompt that corresponds to the video you selected.** Remember to utilize a minimum of FIVE terms you have learned in this module to support your thinking and feelings.

    4.
**Write Your Reflection** by following the same formatting used when writing your Reflection #1 in the Orientation section of Moodle.  Below, you will see a basic outline to guide you through the critical thinking process and to compose a coherent and meaningful reflection paper.

    ·
**Introduction Paragraph:** Begin by briefly introducing the video you have selected and explaining the main points of the video for improved interpersonal communication behaviors. Briefly connect these main points to your personal situation to make the paper relevant to you, specifically.

    ·
**Body Paragraphs (at least 3):** Provide a detailed explanation of one or more theories from the module and their key concepts.  Explain how each theory applies to your current life situation and personal learning strategy, focusing on one-to-one communication in a particular context or setting. Provide specific examples of how you can implement these theories to improve your interactions in personal relationships on the job, at work, in the classroom, at home, or on a date, etc.  Use and cite at least FIVE (5) specific terms from the textbook readings and bold the terms for easy identification. Use proper citations for each term you reference from the textbook by citing the section number or from one of the videos such as:
_self-actualization_ (Chapter 1, Fig. 2.1.1) or (Rogers’ Self Concept video, timestamp 1:03).

    ·
**Conclusion:** Summarize your key insights and how you plan to incorporate these theories into your ongoing personal and professional development, particularly in the context of one-to-one communication.

**Additional Concept to Consider for Your Critical Thinking:**

    · How has being mindful (or lack thereof) affected your communication and relationships?

    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

The critical note should be between 2-3 pages, double spaced.  The main point of the assignment is to ensure that you read critically, reflecting and analyzing the views and ideas offered by the writers.  The articles presented in this course offer particular view  points, these view points don’t need to be accepted, agreed upon, or rejected, but I want to hear how you examine the perspectives presented and how you then formulate your own opinion.  Please make sure to cite the artciles on CDA and CDHA!

    – Do not summarize the readings. I want to hear your voice. Outline instead, your ideas, observations, and perspectives applied to the views and positions presented in the readings.
    – **Do not dismiss a reading because you dislike the ideas or viewpoint offered. Conversely, do not simply accept a reading and its ideas because you like or respond positively to its viewpoint.**
    – Reading critically and engaging with the reading means (in this context) exploring, investigating, testing, and challenging your responses to the reading, as well as the viewpoints and ideas presented by the writer.

    PRACTICE PROBLEM;

—Foster youth 12-18 aging out of the system nationally

    OR

Supporting youth 18 years old transition to aging out.

**Conclusion** (What I believe now, what evidence convinced me, and why) (3/4 page).  **Your opinion** on the article. Did you agree with the thesis or believe the findings? If everything was logical, clear, and well-ordered, yet you remain skeptical, how would you explain that? Perhaps a fundamental difference in values would explain it, or perhaps you know of counterevidence not considered by the author. Your estimation of the **article’s contribution** to knowledge and its implications or applications to our world.

Since the conclusion is mostly your opinion on the two articles, this is the only section of the assignment where you can write "I" statements.
