**Specific Problem**: Workplace violence (WPV) against nurses is a pervasive problem as exacerbated by chronic understaffing, high stress at work, and lackadaisical reporting and prevention system (Yildiz et al., 2025). This can cause a lot of nurse burnout, turnover, and poor patient safety.

**Why this is important**: Workplace violence is a serious issue among nurses in the workplace which has a direct effect on nurse retention, physical and psychological health and care to patients. Studies suggest that there is a high prevalence of WPV against nurses, especially during COVID-19 (Abedi et al., 2023). This is vital not only to ensure that qualified healthcare employees remain in the profession, but also the ethical and professional standards of the profession, and the safety of healthcare environments.

**Research Question**: What evidence-based strategies such as leadership behaviors, training programs, and technological interventions can be used within healthcare organizations and nursing leadership to prevent and manage workplace violence to improve nurse safety, reduce turnover, and improve patient care outcome?

Scholarly Paper: Step 2 – Literature Summary Table & Reference List Assignment

    Overview

Now that you've identified your scholarly sources in Step 1, it's time to systematically organize and analyze them to build the foundation for your evidence-based scholarly paper. This step will help you create a clear picture of what the research says about your chosen nursing issue and begin to identify the strongest solutions supported by evidence.

    What You'll Do

    1.
**Complete the Literature Summary Table for 3 articles** using the provided template. Choose 3 of your strongest, most relevant peer-reviewed articles that directly address solutions to your nursing issue.

    2.
**Create an APA-formatted reference list** containing all 5 peer-reviewed scholarly articles you plan to use in your paper (this includes the 3 from your table plus 2 additional sources).

    3.
**Develop a single-sentence thesis statement** based on the overlapping findings you identify across your sources. Look for the top 2-3 solutions that appear repeatedly across studies.

    4.
**Create a screenshot document** containing the first page of each of the 5 articles used in your reference list. This validates your sources and ensures academic integrity.

    Literature Summary Table Format

Here is a template you can use, or feel free to format your own in a way that helps you analyze your research findings:

Be sure to include these details for each of your 3 articles:

    Instruction

    Descriptive Analytics & Visualization

Activity: Analyzing Employee Attitudes & Performance

In this activity, you will continue working with the
**survey dataset** you organized in the previous assignment. Your task is to analyze the data in Excel and present your findings as if you were preparing a
    **short report for organizational executives**.

    Your report should include
**tables, graphs, and brief written narratives** explaining your results and their implications for the organization.

    ✅ Steps to Complete

    1.
    **Describe the Demographics**

    · Create frequency tables for
**gender, age, education, years with organization, and years with supervisor**.

    · Use bar charts or pie charts to visualize demographic distributions. Be sure to label categories and include percentages.

    · In your narrative, explain what the organization can learn from the demographic makeup of its employees.

    2.
    **Summarize Attitudes & Performance Variables**

    · Using your
**computed variables** (Supervisor Commitment, Organizational Commitment, Engagement, Performance):

    · Calculate
**mean, mode, median, minimum, and maximum**.

    · Insert a table summarizing these statistics.

    · Create a bar chart of the
    **mean scores** for each variable.

    ·
**Note:** Do not analyze the individual survey items (Q2, Q3, etc.). Use only the computed variables you created.

    3.
    **Interpret the Results**

    · Compare the mean scores to the
**scale midpoint** (e.g., if the scale was 1–5, midpoint = 3).

    · Calculate the
**percentage of employees scoring “high”** (those selecting
    _agree_ or
    _strongly agree_ on the scale).

    · In your narrative, explain whether the results indicate strong or weak attitudes/engagement and discuss what that means for the organization.

    4.
    **Examine the Distribution**

    · Create histograms for each computed variable.

    · Identify whether each distribution is
    **normal or skewed**.

    · Explain what the distribution shape implies about employee attitudes and performance.

    📄 Submission Instructions

    ·
**Report:** Write your findings in a Word document. Include your tables, graphs, and a brief interpretation for each step.

    ·
**Evidence:** Attach either your Excel analysis file or screenshots of your output as proof of your work.

👉 Your report should read as if you are
**presenting results to executives**: concise, professional, and focused on what the data means for the organization.

Rubric – Employee Attitudes & Performance Analysis (100 points)

**Topic Chosen: Workplace Violence in Nursing.**

    | — | — |
    | **Component** | **Details** |
    | **Year/Location** | This quality improvement project was published in 2023 and was conducted at Shahid Beheshti Hospital in Maragheh, Iran, in January-November 2020. The 86 nurses were used in the baseline audit, and the 62 nurses were used in the follow-up audit. |
    | **Purpose** | The study evaluated adherence to evidence-based standards on preventing and handling workplace violence against nurses and applied the JBI PACES and GRiP model to evaluate barriers, implement strategies, and measure improvement. |
    | **Findings** | The intervention included audit feedback, ongoing aggression management training, communication and stress management training, immediate post-incident support, and an organizational risk management policy. Adherence to aggression management training rose by 49 percent to 81 percent. The support provided on time also rose by 8 percent to 73 percent, and adherence to a safe environment and risk management policy rose by 22 percent to 77 percent. The results back up an organized organizational strategy as opposed to isolated training. |
    | **Factors Discussed** | Legal aspects involved assessment of legal strategies and a risk management and staff safety policy. The ethical considerations were institutional approval, informed consent, and acknowledgment of the obligation of the organization to furnish a safe workplace. Intervention planning was also informed by cultural barriers and taboos around the discussion of violence. |
    | **Areas of Nursing** | Practice tasks were communication, stress management, and violence response skills. Administration duties encompassed multidisciplinary leadership, policy formulation, surveillance, and after-incident. Violence management education had to be continued in nursing education. The research tasks were regular audits and additional analysis of implementation barriers and sustainability. |
    | **Impact on Profession** | The project enhanced knowledge, support, and adherence to safety practices by the nurses. A safer environment and better answers to violence may be beneficial to the nurses and patients. Nevertheless, the single hospital setting and the burden associated with COVID decreased the follow-up sample, and further auditing and leadership support are significant. |

    | | |
    | — | — |
    | **Component** | **Details** |
    | **Year/Location** | This is a quasi-experimental study published in 2023 and carried out in a tertiary general hospital in Suzhou, China. The application study recruited 276 nurses during 2021, with 140 nurses in the intervention district and 136 nurses in the control district. |
    | **Purpose** | The research question was whether an information-based education and training platform that is specific to the needs of nurses in workplace violence can reduce the incidence and severity of violence and enhance coping resources in 6 months. |
    | **Findings** | The platform provided course learning, assessment, message feedback, management functions, and workplace violence reporting. The intervention brought about major changes in violence outcomes and resources to cope with such outcomes, such as a stronger reduction in physical aggression in the intervention group. Over a period of 6 months, nurses reported 187 instances of violence using the platform, and they were managed by managers. Over 95 percent of nurses positively reviewed the platform in terms of usefulness, ease of learning, acceptance, and satisfaction. |
    | **Factors Discussed** | Ethical considerations were ethics committee approval, voluntary participation, informed consent, and the right to withdraw. Finance considerations were evident in the explanation of information technology training as a cost-effective substitute for the resource-intensive classroom techniques. Stricter laws and regulations on workplace violence were recommended by law. Transferability may be restricted by cultural and structural barriers. |
    | **Areas of Nursing** | Practice entailed early identification of violence and gradual coping mechanisms. Administration entailed examination of reports, monitoring of affected nurses, and an incidental response. Learning was mobile and flexible. Larger multicenter studies, longer interventions, and assessment of decreasing effects over time were among the research priorities. |
    | **Impact on Profession** | The platform provided an effective means of enhancing preparedness, reporting, and organizational response, and minimizing training load. Nevertheless, the effectiveness declined after 6 months, which implies that organizations must update content, support participation, and track results to maintain the benefits. |

    ## Article 3

Cai, J., Wu, S., Wang, H., Zhao, X., Ying, Y., Zhang, Y., & Tang, Z. (2023). The effectiveness of a workplace violence prevention strategy based on situational prevention theory for nurses in managing violent situations: A quasi-experimental study.

    | | |
    | — | — |
    | **Component** | **Details** |
    | **Year/Location** | This self-controlled study was published in 2023 and was done in a comprehensive tertiary hospital in Suzhou, China. Scientists trained 130 nurses and assessed the incidence, severity, and coping resources of workplace violence at baseline and 3, 6, and 9 months. |
    | **Purpose** | The paper has formulated and piloted a workplace violence prevention plan that was founded on situational prevention theory and the needs of clinical nurses, with the focus on violence prevention prior to escalation and enhancement of response capacity. |
    | **Findings** | There were 11 high-risk situations used to develop 11 prevention plans. All the plans contained a prevention flowchart, treatment principles, and communication strategies. The incidence of workplace violence reduced by 63.85 percent at baseline to 46.15 percent after 9 months. The severity of physical and psychological violence was reduced, and the overall coping resource scores improved by 66.50 to 80.00. The intervention enhanced early threat recognition, communication, practical response skills, and organizational support. |
    | **Factors Discussed** | Ethical considerations were medical ethics committee approval, informed consent in writing, and compliance with research guidelines. Spiritual, cultural, legal, and financial factors were not explicitly analyzed as components of the intervention in the article and are thus not included. |
    | **Areas of Nursing** | The practice duties encompassed the early detection of high-risk situations and the use of situation-specific communication and response strategies. The tasks of administration involved raising organizational awareness and support. Training entailed specific training in clinical scenarios. The priorities of the research were multicenter studies, randomized controlled trials, extended training, or online learning. |
    | **Impact on Profession** | The plan was viable and generated changes throughout 9 months. Nurses gained access to more effective coping and preparation, and organizations had a systematic prevention system. Due to the fact that the study involved one hospital and a self-controlled design, there is a need to have wider testing and frequent refresher training in order to be sustainable. |

    ## Thesis Statement

Workplace violence against nurses can be reduced most effectively through sustained prevention training, strong leadership and post-incident support, and accessible reporting and technology-supported systems that strengthen early recognition, communication, and organizational response.

    | | |

    | | |

What Is Your Curriculum Perspective? is due this week. As you finalize your submission, remember that the goal is not simply to identify an educational philosophy, but to explain how that philosophy connects to the way you understand curriculum.

A few things to keep in mind:

    · Your paper should be approximately 3–5 pages and organized using clear headings.

    · Begin with a definition of curriculum grounded in the literature.

    · Clearly identify and discuss your educational philosophy using one of the philosophical perspectives addressed in the course readings.

    · Explain your own curriculum perspective and connect it to your philosophy.

    · Compare your perspective with the approach to curriculum used within a school, district, state, or another relevant educational context.

    · Go beyond describing similarities and differences by offering specific recommendations for improvement.

    · Support your ideas with the course readings and other appropriate scholarly sources, while also incorporating relevant examples from your professional or educational experiences.

    · Review your work carefully for organization, clarity, APA 7 formatting, citations, and proofreading before submitting.

Most importantly, I am looking for your thinking throughout this assignment. Use the literature to support and extend your ideas rather than allowing quotations or summaries of sources to dominate the paper.

This presentation opportunity allows you to practice the scholarly communication competencies essential for nursing leadership roles.

    Overview

You will create a professional presentation to disseminate the research findings from your scholarly paper, choosing from multiple format options that accommodate your schedule and technical preferences. Additionally, you will provide substantive peer review feedback on a classmate's presentation, practicing the collaborative evaluation skills used in professional nursing environments. This assignment simulates real-world scenarios where nurses present research to administration, colleagues, or professional audiences to advocate for practice changes.

    Instructions

    1. Select one of the following professional presentation formats based on your preferences and available resources:

    ·
    **Videotaped verbal presentation:**

    · Record a 3-5 minute professional presentation using any recording device (smartphone acceptable).

    · Present as if advocating for change to hospital administration rather than simply reading your paper.

    · Discuss the information as if giving a presentation to your hospital administration in an effort to advocate for change.

    ·
    **Narrated slide presentation:**

    · Create 10-15 slides using PowerPoint, Prezi, Canva, or Google Slides with audio narration.

    · Follow the "5/5/5/ Rule" as recommended in

    **Introduction**

Workplace violence (WPV) represents a significant and persistent threat to the nursing profession on a global level. The problem affects the health of nurses and the quality of care and stability of health-care organizations. It is a widespread phenomenon and concerns all types of care facilities and geographic areas since nurses encounter both verbal and physical abuse and bullying as part of their professional experience. Lack of appropriate staffing, heavy workload, and poor reporting and preventive measures have only aggravated the situation and made nurses more vulnerable to workplace violence resulting in burnout and turnover of nurses. In addition to the impact on the individual state of nurses, WPV undermines the ethical values of the nursing profession and the safety of health care. The solution to the problem requires a well-organized and evidence-based approach based on organizational support, education, and technology (Al-Qadi, 2021). The best prevention of WPV against nurses will be provided through continuous prevention training, supportive leadership, and reporting system along with the development of technologies for better communication and organizational responses to WPV.

    **Background**

The cases of violence in the workplace (WPV) against nurses are very prevalent. Available data shows that roughly 44.6% of nurses undergo WPV at least once a year. However, the true extent of WPV is believed to be much greater than reported because the problem of underreporting is pervasive. Research suggests that around 70% of WPV cases affecting nurses are not reported because people usually believe that reporting does not do anything to solve the problem (Alnaeem et al., 2025). The problem of underreporting becomes even more prominent when dealing with nursing students who have an additional set of barriers for reporting such as fear of receiving punishment from the faculty members or even revenge attacks from aggressors.

WPV affects nursing students and new graduates significantly because they possess insufficient skills needed to handle WPV cases and feel that they are not fully prepared for working in clinics. The effects of WPV include both psychological trauma and increased level of anxiety; in addition, victims show poor results in academic performance and decide to quit their jobs in most cases. The effect leads to the expected nurse shortage because of the influence of WPV on turnover intentions.

    **Analysis of Impacting Factors**

The analysis of the workplace violence problem in nursing practice requires the consideration of several factors that affect both the emergence of the problem and effectiveness of interventions. On the one hand, ethical factors imply that the healthcare organizations have the duty to ensure the safety of their employees' workplace and realize the fact that the issue of workplace violence cannot be considered simply from the point of view of policy, as it is a professional and ethical responsibility of healthcare practitioners (de Raeve et al., 2023). As far as legal factors are concerned, it is necessary to consider institutional risk management and staff safety policies.

Researchers suggest stricter laws and regulations to reduce the problem and make it possible to enforce them. Cultural barriers and taboos that may arise when discussing violence can make it difficult for nurses to report about such cases, as nurses in some situations may consider aggression normal and report the case due to fear of being stigmatized. The financial aspect influences the type of the intervention because the use of digital training programs was found to be more cost-efficient compared to the traditional classroom training. As far as the relation to nursing theory is concerned, the use of workplace violence prevention strategy implies its holistic character. For example, using the JBI PACES and GRiP model of evidence-based implementation will help to understand that violence prevention involves organizational changes.

    **Evidence-Based Solutions**

The combination of recent evidence suggests a number of effective interventions in prevention and treatment of workplace violence (WPV) directed at nurses. The main evidence-based intervention includes training programs which have already proven their efficiency in increasing the preparedness of nurses, their confidence, and ability to respond to an incident of WPV. In Iran, a quality improvement project including audit feedback, aggression management training, stress and communication training, as well as immediate post-incident intervention increased the adherence rates up to 49 percentage points. Furthermore, a situational prevention theory-based strategy decreased WPV incidence from 63.85% to 46.15% during nine months period with the improvement in nurses' coping resource score from 66.50 to 80.00 (Kafle et al., 2022). The conducted systematic review confirms the efficiency of training program, supportive policies, and improved environmental safety as ways to decrease WPV and improve the preparedness of nurses to cope with it.

However, the efficiency of training programs decreases over time with the decline after about six months. Therefore, training content must be regularly updated and nurses should attend refresher courses. All these types of interventions are consistent with nursing theory since the theory states that the preparation for complicated clinical situations involves both learning knowledge and gaining skills and developing the ability to cope emotionally with difficult events.

The second EBP approach is based on using technology-enabled reporting and training platforms that tackle several barriers at once. An education and training platform based on the use of information implemented in China produced significant changes in violence outcomes and coping resources, with more than 95% of the nurses finding the platform useful, easy to learn, and satisfactory. The platform enabled reporting of 187 violence incidents during six months, providing managers with data needed for analysis and decision making (Alnaeem et al., 2025). Technology interventions, including digital learning platforms, VR simulations, and mobile apps, have been found to produce positive effects on knowledge, attitudes, self-efficacy, coping mechanisms, communication skills, and willingness to report.

According to a systematic review on technology-assisted interventions, such interventions produce particularly good results in terms of short-term preparedness and psychological support; however, according to the authors, further empirical evidence is needed to prove their effectiveness. It is impossible to ignore the potential of technology-enabled interventions since they provide an effective way to conduct regular learning and reporting processes without overloading the already strained nurses (de Raeve et al., 2023). In terms of clinical nursing practice, technology-based platforms will help identify the cases of violence and develop a gradual coping mechanism.

The third evidence-based solution emphasizes the importance of good organizational leadership and comprehensive post-incident support as key elements in the process of WPV prevention. It is established via systematic reviews that for any intervention to be successful and provide substantial reduction in the rate of violence it should comprise supportive policy, improved reporting, and post-incident management. The implementation of an incident-reporting and post-incident support system in addition to context-based de-escalation training, long-term organizational change to solve problems of chronic shortages in nursing staff and build a safety culture is a solution advocated by policy experts (Abedi et al., 2023). Leadership failures, including lack of management support and clarity in reporting procedures, serve as risk factors in all settings and organizational response to incidents is often unable to provide the needed stability for nurses.

The policy brief on the subject of WPV reduction points out the critical lack of connection between policy and practice in the area of health care and argues that current policies do not deal with the underlying factors of violence and proposes prioritized strategies, which should involve multi-component interventions at individual, organizational and systemic level. In terms of nursing administration, the solution requires multidisciplinary leadership, policy, surveillance and post-incident management. In nursing practice, the solution involves communication, stress management and violence response competencies.

    **Nursing Theory Alignment**

The application of the nursing theory in the prevention of violence in the workplace provides a framework that is useful in comprehending the issue. The JBI PACES (Practical Application of Clinical Evidence System) and GRiP (Getting Research into Practice) model used in the quality improvement process in Iran provides a well-structured process for the implementation of evidence that is relevant in violence prevention. The JBI PACES framework leads the practitioner through the following steps: identification of evidence-based standards, carrying out baseline audits, identifying barriers to compliance, implementation of strategies, and appraisal of improvements achieved. According to the philosophy of the JBI PACES model, the evidence-based practice involves more than just dissemination of evidence but also includes change management and quality improvement processes (Alnaeem et al., 2025). Concepts that are crucial in this theory include audit and feedback, barrier identification, implementation strategy, and outcome measure.

In relation to workplace violence, the JBI model helps the practitioners to know that prevention of violence entails systematic changes in the organization but not training. Through the JBI PACES model, nursing practitioners are able to comprehend the role played by nursing leadership in violence prevention. This theory makes the practitioner understand that effective prevention of violence is not achieved through training but the organization needs to be involved in systematic organizational change that promotes safety culture. This theory provides the framework that guides the nurse on how to create an environment where people feel comfortable to report violence.

    **Conclusion**

In conclusion, workplace violence against nurses is a serious global issue that has far-reaching consequences for individuals, patients, and the healthcare system as a whole. Based on the literature review, it becomes clear that there needs to be a complex approach to prevention that includes continuous training, technological means of reporting, and effective organizational leadership together with support following the incident. All of the aforementioned measures should be based on nursing theory that recognizes the complexity of the clinical setting and the interconnectedness of individual, organizational, and systemic factors contributing to violence. It is clear what the implication of the findings is for nursing practice – healthcare organizations need to make workplace violence prevention one of their top priorities and use evidence-based interventions that involve education, reporting, and organizational response. Future research needs to focus on multi-center studies, randomized controlled trials, and sustainable interventions that involve studying patient status along with environmental and organizational factors.
