**Before You Post**
Please take a moment to review the **Discussion Board Grading Rubric** attached to this assignment before getting started — it outlines exactly how your initial post, peer engagement, and writing quality will be assessed. Reading it before you write (not after) will make a real difference in your grade.
**Step 1: Engage With This Week's Resources**
Before writing your post, please complete the following in order — each one builds on the last:
• ???? **Read Chapter 1** with your PowerPoint slides (https://lrccd.instructure.com/courses/332938/files/91450131?wrap=1)تنزيل PowerPoint slides
(https://lrccd.instructure.com/courses/332938/files/91450131/download?download_frd=1)open for note-taking
• ???? **Watch:** _"_ Peacocks in the Land of Penguinsارتباطات إلى موقع خارجي.
(https://youtu.be/z5z5bcVsHCs) _"_ (5 minutes)
• ???? **Listen:** NPR Hidden Brain — "Edge Effects"ارتباطات إلى موقع خارجي.

The video and podcast aren't just supplemental — they're the foundation of this week's discussion. Give them your full attention and take notes on specific moments, examples, or ideas you want to bring into your post.
**Step 2: Write Your Initial Post**
Your initial post has **three required parts.** Please make sure all three are included — the rubric awards points for each element, and missing any part will affect your grade.
**Part 1 – Discussion Prompt Response** _(250–350 words)_
_"Peacocks in the Land of Penguins"_ and the _Hidden Brain_ podcast both offer vivid, real-world illustrations of what happens when difference is either embraced or suppressed in organizations and communities.
Using **Cox and Blake's six benefits of managing diversity** from Chapter 1 (also discussed in the mini-lecture), respond to the following:
• In what specific ways do the video and podcast illustrate Cox and Blake's argument for _purposefully_ managing diversity — rather than simply tolerating it?
• What are the risks — for individuals, teams, and organizations — of _failing_ to effectively manage diversity?
**• Cite specific examples** from the video, podcast, and/or chapter to support your analysis. Vague generalizations won't earn full credit — the strongest posts point to particular moments, characters, or data.
**Part 2 – Your Own Quote** _(quote + APA citation)_
Find a quote from the **Chapter 1 reading** that you want to explore — something that resonated with you, challenged you, or raised a question you're still sitting with. Choose something **unrelated to the discussion prompt above** so we can open up new threads of conversation.
Include:
**1 The quote** — copied accurately, in quotation marks
**2 APA citation** — author, year, and page number
**Part 3 – Your Response to the Quote** _(100–150 words)_
Why did this quote stand out to you? What does it make you think about? What question does it raise for you or for the class?
_Think of your quote as an invitation to your classmates — choose something that will spark genuine conversation, not just agreement._
**End your post with a complete APA References section** for any sources you cited, including the textbook.
**Step 3: Return and Respond to Your Peers** **Due: Sunday at midnight**
After the Thursday posting deadline, return to the discussion board and respond to **at least two classmates.** Strong peer responses do more than agree — they ask follow-up questions, offer a different perspective, connect ideas to your own experience, or push the conversation deeper.
**Plan to visit the discussion board on three separate days each week:**
**• Thursday** — post your initial response
**• Friday or Saturday** — read and respond to at least two classmates
**• Sunday** — follow up on any questions directed to you and continue the dialogue
In an asynchronous course, spreading out your participation is what transforms a discussion board into a real conversation rather than a series of isolated posts. The rubric rewards engagement throughout the week — not just meeting the minimum.
